Vols beat Auburn by 4

If Dobbs can maintain some offense to get some rest for the defense, AND, our CB can do well in man coverage to allow the safeties to help in run support.......I predict the Vols to win by 4.

I hope u r right. I just don't see it.

Beat TAMU at TAMU. But keep acting like they are just a product of their schedule.

What does that mean? They have a high school D and got beatdown by LSU. Thankyou for proving my point, they are very much a product of their schedule.

No offense JV, but we match up horribly with their run offense (#1 in the SEC) vs our run defense (#14 in the SEC). It will more than likely determine the outcome of the game. The only way we slow down their run game is if they put it on the 2-3 times. Otherwise, they roll up 350-400 yds rushing and we get embarrassed. Not being a NegaVol, just looking at the facts at this point.

Additionally, another bad matchup for us is our passive and slow OL vs their quick and aggressive DL/DEs. I don't think we matchup well with Auburn at all.

I just said we matched up better with AU than Mizzou. We will put up yards and points on their D. Hell sorry a$$ Arky ran all day on that quick, agressive D.

I think we're going to find out that Auburn is deserving of their ranking. Let's hope for good recruiting news come Monday.

We will find out they aren't I believe. But if I am wrong I will be first to admit it. AU is very overrated..

Don't see it. AU (and I hate to say it) is the second best team in the SEC. UT might hang close for a half, but the Barn wins big.

How are they second best? LSU beat them easily, unless your saying AU is better than Ala, which they arent.

So many of you just make up reasons to put down any opponent.

The only thing UT has going for it is that we are the home team. That's it.

Auburn will run and run and run it down our throats. Hopefully UT keeps it close and catch a few breaks to keep close.

But it its just stupid to try and put our opponent down.

Even more stupid to put your own team down..just saying..

I think it's going to come down to your defense and our offense - Our defense's numbers certainly don't look fantastic, but we shore up well once we get backed into the red zone. Dobbs could give us a lot of trouble, but we do have a ball hawk or two that can go after it. One of the keys to our running game I think majority of people are overlooking is that it's not all Mason - we've got Grant and Artis-Payne as well. Gus typically saves AP for the 4th and then just powers him right at defenses. Anyway - hoping for a good game and enjoying the mutual hatred of the Bammers.

Auburn is much better since that game and LSU has regressed. You aren't giving auburn any credit, similar to people bit giving Mizzou any credit a week ago. It will be an extremely difficult game and the speed gap between our defense and their skill position players will be more obvious than they were against Mizzou. We do not match up well at all against auburn.

Just so everyone knows, I took one for the team and put money down on Auburn. I've never won when betting against UT, so I bet on Auburn to win straight up.

You're welcome.

I agree with everything in bold except for the speed gap being more obvious than against Mizzou. I certainly agree that their speed will be a problem for us, I just think it won't be quite as bad as it was w/Mizzou.

My main reason for having this position is that we're a completely different team when playing at home. Before anyone says "Durrr so you think playing at home makes our players faster durrr durrrrrr bla bla durrr", let me stop you. I'm not saying that, but they do play w/more discipline and tenacity at home, and that can help negate opposing speed.

If Auburn's speed advantage over us is MORE obvious than it was in the Mizzou game, we're going to be getting blown out Saturday in Neyland quite badly.

Well, for one thing they're ranked in the top 10 and LSU is not. Unless you know something that the pollsters don't, I'll go with them. Using your logic, LSU lost to Ole Miss and AU beat them. So how does that play? AU's healthy and playing well on O. Beat TAMU. Mizzou's starting QB is out for the season. Thus my statement that, I believe, AU's the 2nd best team in the SEC. We'll see soon.

More pressure is on our receivers than Dobbs imo. They arent performing, finishing their routes, and their causing interceptions. Dobbs didnt have a bad first game last week, the receivers made it look alot worse. I think Dobbs could definitely lead us to some wins, if other parts of the team are working like the were in a couple games this season. People that thinks he doesnt have the "it" factor may be wrong, I think he played well for the most part, I just wanted to see a little more enthusiasm out of the guy and thats it.

The total number spread for UT is from 21 to 35 points possible.
The total number spread for Barn is from 31 to 49 points possible.
There is overlap, so we do have a chance to win this game.
That being said, here are the keys for the Vols to win.
1) No turnovers
2) Convert 60% or more of 3rd downs
3) Win the Clock battle

The OP is in the realm of possibilities.
It would certainly help if we score 1st, and keep the crowd involved.
We cannot have any down in front attitudes.
We need the players AND fans to give their all for Tennessee on Saturday.
If UT gets more than 22 points that is a moral victory.
If UT holds the barn to less than 33 points it is a moral victory.
If Barn gets more than 49 points it is a failure on D.
If Barn holds us to less than 21 points, it is a failure on O.
Our margin of error is smaller, and the numbers show that.
I am not sure where the betting line is at this time, but math says it should be 10 point spread

Although your more and likely right because common sense says that UT's talent isn't top SEC play and Auburns a little closer to the top talent wise. The whole saying someone's going to win because they beat someone, usually doesnt play out by the time the seasons over. Thats because only 1 or 2 teams (mostly bammer) is consistant from week to week. But i do see what your saying. GO VOLS

Over 10 pt spread .. more like 14 .. sry had my orange glasses on still.
UT should be 14pt dogs ... so if its less .. it is Vegas hedging their bets.
Anyway .. Go Big Orange ...

Auburn = #1 rushing yards per game in the league
Tenn = Last against the run in the league.

I love the Vols but I think this one will get ugly quick.

Only advantage we have is the 100k fans yelling when AU has the ball. Hope it doesn't get quiet.

I agree. The crowd has to be the 12th man for this game. Hope it's the loudest Neyland has ever been! I know I'll be doing my part! GO VOLS!!!!!

Unless some of those "12th men" can make tackles, I'm afraid Auburn's run attack will eventually wear us down and gash the defense.

Hope you're right OP but I don't see it. I think we play much better this week at home but probably Auburn comes out on top.
