With the win over Kentucky, we moved up in several rankings.
#8 Sagarin
#1 Sagarin / Recent Score
#5 Massey
#5 BPI
#8 NET
Unfortunately, the NCAA relies on the NET rankings, which is the most flawed of the bunch and seems to produce a few wacky results. It's had Houston as the #3 team in the country for a long time, and while Houston is being underrated a bit, I don't see how anyone could put them at #3.
Overall, I feel like we're solidly a #2 seed right now, but I'm not sure if the selection committee will recognize it or not. We're 10-7 against Quad 1 teams and we played much better in the 2nd half of the season than the 1st. With the win over Kentucky yesterday, we look like the #1 SEC team regardless of the outcome today. And I don't see how they could put 8 other teams above us, particularly with Duke losing in a blowout to Virginia Tech yesterday. Of the 7 teams above us in NET, we should still be ahead of Houston, and Kentucky with the win yesterday. Which should make us the #6 overall seed at a minimum.
For now, these "bracketology experts" (who are not actually experts) think we're a 3. CBS still has us as a 3 and Lunardi at ESPN still has Auburn, Kentucky, and Duke above us at the 2 line. (Seriously, how could anyone have us below Duke at this point?) We'll see if the selection committee agrees soon.
