After battling through six and a half scoreless innings against the No. 5 seed Arkansas, Tennessee fell in a dramatic, first-round matchup by a score of 2-1 at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium on Tuesday night.

Vols just don't have the horses yet. They have maybe 5 or 6 SEC caliber players whereas Arkansas has about 10-12. Vanderbilt, TAMU, FL, LSU teams like those have 15-20. That's what it is.

Serrano just has lost too many to the draft. Hasn't played those cards well.

Same story, bad base running, and can't hit. CDS said he won't quit, so another year of him underachieving. Feel for the kids, but I don't think it gets better next year.

The base running mistakes were huge in this tight game. The pitching in the first three innings made the game interesting. Just making it to the tournament and getting a sweep was a huge step. Need more bats in the lineup.

Methinks you fret too much. Lacking depth for SEC standards, but the team gave good effort last night against a more talented foe. :whistling:

Valid points but the biggest problem is lack of SEC talent on this team. Spotty production at best from bottom 4 of the order, no subs, and about 4 pitchers who can even compete in the SEC. If the Vols had lucked into a couple of wins in Hoover, they would have been pitching position players by the 3rd or 4th game.

If he loses as many of the Jrs to the draft as I am hearing, next year could be a very rough year.

In order to win in baseball, you must be fundamentally sound. UT Baseball was not fundamentally sound this year. They had trouble in all phases of the game, including chemistry. I saw errors and mistakes this year that should not be made at this level of play. In many games the team just beat themselves. Watching this team play was hard, but I did watch and cheer. I like CDS, and I think that he is a coach with good character. I hope he can figure a way to turn this around. He's got a tough job.

It was an entertaining game. I am very disappointed we couldn't pull this one out. But we played very hard and battled hard to get out of many jams.
Batting was maybe just a little too pumped to relax and play. Pitchers battled with all they had. Be nice of course to have a couple more of SEC shutdown arms added to mix. Maybe if we don't lose to much and can add some pieces we can make it regionals next year. It is a tough league and being pretty close still gets you a lot of L's in this league. Credit to Arkansas, they played hard also.

The most disappointing series this year was the Georgia series. Really exemplified our season.

Last night was tough. Went from thinking we were about to get blown out to thinking we might just steal a game we didn't deserve to sudden vanquishment.

Last night was a very tough loss! It looked like our base Vols were getting hot at the right time. We got out of some tough spots last night on defense. At least it was nice that we were one of the teams that didn't make the tournament this season. Maybe next season.

It was year 3, but really year 2 because first year was Year Zero. Brick by brick. Need time to build a solid foundation. Patience. It will happen. One day we will be the best (insert any Vol mens' sport) team in the SEC. Soon.
