Vols drop to #11 in AP, 1 behind Bama

That’s fair.

- Texas should jump Tennessee after winning at Bama

- ND looked really good in their beat down of NC state

Long season left to go. Beat Florida and UTSA. A lot of things will fall into place during week 4:

FSU at Clemson
Ohio St at Notre Dame
Iowa at Penn St
Ole Miss at Bama
Colorado at Oregon

Milroe is not the answer for Alabama. If he continues to start then they will struggle against the upper SEC.

I took a beating on my predictions this week.

I figured we would drop a couple of spots. This is the second set of rankings, they matter no more than the first one, nothing. It's that ranking right after the last game that carries all the weight.

Keep winning (Beat UF and go from there). Vols will get their shot.

Bama still has Ole Miss, Arkansas, Miss St and A&M before the Vols play them. Not sure if Bama is going to win all of those.
I hope they do. Won't make any difference in the outcome of our game with them and Id rather win or lose to a 1 loss Bama team than a 5 loss one.

I worry about TN, not Bama. Lol
I do too, but the placement of the teams in the AP poll is and has always been political and not based on how the teams look on the field. Many of the teams ranked above Tennessee have not looked crisp in games against lessor opponents either.

The Bammers could easily lose four games (or more) this year. Milroe is not much above an idiot and their whole team plays about fifty levels below their star rating.

It's pretty reprehensible and unconscionable for Bama to be ranked ahead of us when we won and they lost. I get that we struggled, relatively; good teams struggle every year with inferior opponents (see UGA vs. MO last year); as bad as it sounds like we played, Bama looked like absolute trash last night. Texas is not world-beaters as much as this is probably Saban's worst team since his first year there - I think anyone would be hard-pressed to argue otherwise. How many times have we seen the voters keep a ranked team at their previous ranking after squeaking by an FCS or bottom-tier FBS foe by a point or field goal? And we won by three scores and they drop us below a team that looked like straight-up ass.

Again, idiot AP reporters show anti-Tennessee bias. If you look at the people who actually know the game better than anyone else, the coaches, they didn't drop Tennessee and have us ranked ahead of Alabama. Interestingly enough, AP voters also dropped media darling Ohio State two places. FYI, Reece Davis of ESPN (and others) has UT as eighth. Matt Baker of the Tampa Times has UT at fifteen and Ohio State at five. Here is a link so you can see for yourself how folks voted.

Just need to win a game in the Swamp … A game we should win, but based on the sleepwalking non-performance by the Vols weekend, I am much less confident we will.

I am hopeful that this weekend was a learning experience that will snap our guys back into focus. The game against Austin Peay reminded me too much of the worst days of the latter Fulmer era: under-performing, not focused, leaving a lot of opportunities out on the field.

Well, I suppose it says a lot that we are back to actually having solid expectations again. Still, this weekend has me wondering if we might actually be a 7-5 team.
