Playing in its first postseason game since 2007, Tennessee fell, 3-2, to Vanderbilt in a nail-biter on Tuesday morning at the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala.

Not trying to be a negavol in any way, but...

That was truly some clutch choking. I mean, it's incredibly difficult to get tagged off 3rd with no outs on a ground ball. Getting picked off first base was just the icing on the bridesmaid's cake we had to have shoved in our faces.

That finished being said, great season Vols. Thanks for heading back to the tourney. Tear 'em up next year.

It's possibly not over yet. We may make an NCAA REGIONAL. Plus in all the years I played baseball I saw that 3rd base play happen about 3 times, bad timing when you have a lead off the bag.

I hope you are right but it will be very hard to get 11 NCAA bids for the SEC - We just had some bad luck but I think next year Tennessee will go to Omaha... Just a few bad calls and some bad luck from going this year....

We had a lot of close but no cigar including in conference games. I'm optimistic it's something that gets improved for the next season resulting in a better conference record.
Finish in four through 6 they can avoid the drama of needing a great showing to make it into a regional tournament.

If I recall right the rpi as of today for vols is 44th.

I saw this game on fsn Midwest great that I could watch it in high definition.

Now about the game this loss was a abomination maybe one of the worst I know of for volunteers baseball whether post season or regular season.
It went from very good the lead off double , to great a balk, to bad runner on third tagged out , to worse runner on first also picked off , and horrible the strike out in a very short amount of time.

At least vols kept this a close game, and had a chance in the 9th to win the game, along with not quitting.
A valiant effort in the 9th but the egregious mistakes doomed them to defeat. All losses suck but there are vast abysmal ways to lose and it was shown today in the top of the 9th.
First rate pitcher had to sweat a large amount before vandy got a win.

Thanks for an exciting season guys!. Thanks seniors and good luck. Here's to coming back next year (if we don't make the NCAA's, which is unlikely) and kicking some bootay.
GO VOLS!

Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes the vols shall rise from this abyss and have a better season next season.
The future is bright for the big orange baseball vols.

Looks like we're in the same boat as of just a moment ago. Anyone else wanna go kick kittens or punch puppies?

Text book young team. How many 1 run losses did we have this year? Without looking, I'd guess 10 or so.

In baseball, teams that are dominated by young players often haven't learned to close a game out. This is particularly true in a league like the SEC.

Next year should be pretty interesting. If the same dumb mistakes are happening, it becomes more of a coaching issue than player.

bad play has nothing to do with luck. NO WAY they play on this year. go recruit some players coach.

Yep, and we have some young players and some more coming in to help out. UT should be a player to make the NCAA's next year. If we have a few games go another way this year then we're in it. Tough way to end the season, but they showed progress. Next season should be better barring injuries or players leaving early.

UT was 8-9 in one run games this year.

Terrific pitching performance today by Kyle Serrano and Senzel had a solid game with 3 hits and his base running mistake in the 9th was costly, but he will learn from it.

A very exciting game to watch.

What I saw this morning had us at 31 RPI before the game. Not sure how much the loss changes that, if that was indeed correct.

Edit: that was likely wrong because the one I found has us at 48 with a record of 31-23 which is taking into account today's loss.

Edit #2: that was SOS @31 I saw. I'm tired today. Got up too early to drive down there this morning.

THIS! Atmosphere here in Hoover is great. Lots of other SEC fans told me it was good to see Tennessee back in the tournament. Yong pitchers are good. Vols need some big boppers & more speed in the outfield. Cheering for LSU on Wednesday. :whistling:
