Utah State was defeated by Arkansas State today 14-21 in overtime in case any one didn't know. I think it's interesting to look at this game as a further evaluation of the Vols first two games.

Utah State was without Chuckie Keeton due to a banged up knee but his backup did a decent job.

Fredi Knighten was mostly held in check throwing 1 pick, 1 touchdown and was held to 6 rushing yards on 15 carries.

An interesting statistic was three missed field goals on three attempts by three different kickers.

No offense...but, frankly...there is nothing even mildly interesting in those stats...

Just sayin'

So apparently the scores of the games we played them make a lot of sense. Arky was a better team and played like it against us. Utah was similar to Arky but may have been overrun by an emotionally charged atmosphere in Neyland. I know I'll be pulling for both schools the rest of the season...

Further evaluate our games with Utah State and ASU? Why?

Each game is different week to week. What happened in the previous weeks is meaningless. We can take away absolutely nothing from this game.

As in looking for even more takeaways if possible. Further evaluate the Vols after their first two games. Not saying there is even anything there, but at the minimum it is interesting that two of our non-conference opponents, who are not in the same conference with each other and both won bowl games last year, played against each other the week we had a bye. I think you obviously have to be looking ahead, but you learn from the past. I think film of this game when properly compared to film of our games with each team could help us a lot.

For example, we have often struggled against running quarterbacks. We held Keeton in check mostly but Knighten had a few decent runs against us. Go watch how each team contained the other teams QB. Then compare it to how we contained both QBs. Then look at how we exposed the same defense each team used on each other and see what succeeded and what we need to improve on.

It's all one big circle...possibly one that doesn't matter much, but I think it's at least intriguing.

Funny how people look behind them to see what may be ahead:).

Looks to me as if it worked out the way it was suppose to based on how they both played against UT. We destroyed Utah St. and had a mild struggle with Arky st. so it would seem that Arky st. was a little better and should've beat Utah st. which they did.

Absolutely no successful politician nor business leader [ nor HC I would imagine] would agree with this statement.

So you're saying that the coaching staff won't look at the Oklahoma tape to maybe get a read on how Georgia may try to attack the team?

I know that guy sitting behind me at the Utah St. Game is pissed. According to him they are world beaters who got jobbed by the refs.

Really? They played each other close. We beat each rather handily. Both are respectable mid major teams. Yes Tennessee should beat them, and we did. Both of them, on the other hand, had high hopes they would either play us much closer or even beat us because of our rebuilding. But,.. our youngplayers were indeed up to the challenges and grew from them. This growth allowed them to hang close to Oklahoma until the half. Other than that, yeah, I guess you're right.
