Vols get new commitment

Considering the holes that defenses punched in our offensive line all season, I'd say that needs to be a priority. I know Fulmer loves the big boys but we've seen that bigger is not always better. I want the guys who have the skills to block and look ahead and follow the play through or play until the whistle is blown.

no hostilities GA VOL just saying if he plans to play anytime soon he better get in the weight room and tear it up. i don't like us to get guys that are undersized like this because they usually don't pan out or at the most maybe play their senior year. i'm sort of with hillbilly we need big time play makers at the skilled positions and we just can't seem to get them to come to tennessee this year.

A review of Rivals top 100 recruits (all positions) shows at least 5 or so OL recruits within 10-15 lb.s of this guy.

Slow? Are you kidding me? First of all, the last thing that matters with an olineman is is 40 time.(which happens to be very good for a guy of his size) He was timed at the LA combine at 5.04 in the 40 which is certainly better than most of even the elite rated olineman. He was timed at an extremely impressive 4.69 in the short shuttle and a very impressive 8.03 in the 3 cone drill. All of those numbers are better than that of the #1 OL in the country, Andre Smith. Quickness, athleticism, and his feet are his STRONG points.

I got this one guys.

First of all, EVERY recruiting analyst I have talked to about him says he has tremendous potential and they don't know why ever more college coaches weren't hard after this kid.

He is a very good athlete for his size, has a terrific frame(can certainly get to 300 pounds) and has great feet(basketball has really helped in this department). He has only played football for two years and only one of those were on the Oline. So he is still learning the game and how to play on the oline. His technique certainly has room for improvement.

He is a 2-3 year project due to the lackof playing football and lack of strength that could become an outstanding lineman by his RS sophmore year. He will have to continue to learn better technique as he gets more and more experience. He will have to get in the weight room and get bigger and stronger. I can't believe that guy said he was small and slow when he is 6'5 275 pounds that can definitely get to 300 with his frame and moves extremely well for a guy his size. Those #s I posted of his from the LA combine are very impressive numbers for an olineman.

MANY< MANY prospects come in much smaller than what they will actually play at once they are ready. Guys come in as TEs and grow into OTs. Guys come in as LBs and grow into DEs. Guys come in a safety size guys that grow into LB, etc.

According to scout his strenths are intensity, toughness and a nasty streak. :aggressive: Things that can't be taught. His weaknesses are pass protection and technique. Things that can be taught. Good pickup for the big O.

That's funny, sounds like your're describing Rob Smith.

ah yeh!! constantine ritzman, Bernard Jackson, Oliver ST Priuex, karlton neal. it usually takes a regular guy atleast 2 years to get the right amount of fat and muscle to be mobile. did you ever play fooball GA VOL. i did, when i started playing as a freshman i weighed 150 lbs. it took me 4 years just to get up to 175. also since stucky left our weight program hasn't been very good. i'll wager with you right now you won't see him before his junior year, and i believe he will redshirt next year.

That is funny, it only takes me about 6 months to put on 30 pounds.

He is actually not slow. You don't look at 40 times when figuring out the speed of OL, they are not WR. His coach used the word "amazing" to describe his feet. An ex-NFL lineman that helps coach his high school football team said the same thing. Said his potential is "unbelieveable" so he sounds like he has got some stuff to work with.

josh mcneil listed on as 275 as a freshman when he signed. he is now listed at 283.

ell ash signed at 273 and is now listed at 293.

bolden signed at 294 and is now listed at 285.

i think UT has no problem adjusting a player's weight with their position. and putting on 25 pounds over 4 years in high school is pretty good considering your body fat was pretty low. just a guess. as a freshan i was around 165 and by graduation i was over 220 and ran a 4.74.

5.1 isnt that slow for an olineman at all. quick hands and feet are a key with good vision and athletic ability. oh i forgot a mean streak. :)

here are some numbers for rob smith:

6-4 308
bench presses 450 pounds, squats 530 and cleans 325. 4.90 speed.

we are listed on these guys picks. anyone know anything?

pretty good points. mcneil though is a center and they usually don't suppose to be anymore than 300. this guy is a OT and they don't suppose to be real fast or mobile, my problem is when he does gain some weight how much slower will he be. is ell ash still on the team i thought he got booted.
