It aint 97 anymore. If Nico is here his Sr year it means he didn't live up to the hype.

Dadgum dream crusher. I know what decade it is k-town. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go watch TRL on MTV before I go out and ride my bike around the neighborhood......that street light comes on earlier and earlier as we near fall.

i could be mistaken, but i dont think it matters if he is a RS freshman like he is or a sophomore. you have to be 3 years removed from high school to declare for the NFL draft...unless that has changed in the ever changing world of football

No salary cap for NIL.
This year, Caleb Williams maxed out the NFL rookie cap at 10M a year being #1 overall.

Back of the napkin math says if we can come up with 15M, Nico comes back to try for the Heisman 3-peat.

Don't be a NegaVol.

i believe they are working on a salary cap for NIL, though. expect one to be implemented soon

He also got a 26 million signing bonus on top of that salary.
Ooof, no way getting around a signing bonus being pay for play. Pro rated NIL pay would still be an NCAA violation under the current landscape.

I'm not willing to pay Nico his 2026 money yet anyways.

You just made me a NegaVol!!!

Has NOT changed...we have him for two more years including this year. Then it's Merk, Mac(25) or Faizon(26)

Hmm, not sure about this.

It's part of the changing college football landscape that you can earn really good money before ever going into the draft. That's new. We don't yet know how it might increase the frequency with which players stay in college for "one more run."

Heck, NFL-quality college players did it even before NIL removed the financial pressure to take the step. Peyton did it, for example. And since NIL started, more and more seem to be deciding to stay for another season. Cooper Mays and Javontez Spraggins and John Campbell, Jr, all did it, just from our OL. Folks on these boards were sure, absolutely sure, that Mays and Campbell were gone after last year.

~ ~ ~

So maybe in two years Nico decides he still has things to accomplish in Knoxville. Maybe he moves on and we shift to another of our 5-star QBs. Only time will tell.

It's a nice problem to have.

Go Vols!

Fair point but I don't think many NFL ready players will come back. Especially at QB where the first round signing bonus dwarfs most NIL deals
