The quality wins over Texas and Florida, along with a .500 road record and unblemished home record, have helped the Vols to land 2 sports from the top in the RPI ranking. Sportsline has consistently been pushing the Vols as a force to be reckoned with in the SEC. They have even been projected to be a 4 seed in the tournament if they continue to play at the current level. I really think that in College Basketball the RPI is meaningful. With the sheer number of teams, it's impossible for the human rankings to be really fair. How can these coaches and sports writers be expected to have enough detailed knowledge of every team to fairly rank them. Tennessee has only been ranked for two weeks this year due to the fact that they were unranked and considered not a threat at the beginning of the season. It takes a lot of work and publicity to overcome this problem. But, if they keep up this work, they will turn enough heads to generate the respect they are due from the polls.
