At the end of regulation the game was tied 1-1. It was a classic pitching battle. Stratton from MSU is probably the best pitcher we've faced this year and he was on his game.

Godley had a great game and Steckenrider, though he gets the loss, pitched well enough to win.

We had a chance with three men on in the 11th, but the right fielder made a good throw and got us at the plate. Yeah, it was close, maybe we were safe, but we ain't gonna get that call in Starksville.

Tomorrow, Frosh Robbie Kidd takes the mound which leaves me with this question. Where is senior TJ Thornton? Maybe CDS just likes what he's seen in Kidd, but I wonder.

Bottom line...we need to win tomorrow, we need a win in the worst way.

See CDS post game comments here...

This one was tough. Great game though. I heard Wilkerson say last Saturday that TJ was scratches for violation of team rules. Maybe he is still out for that or maybe Kidd just took advantage of his opportunity.
We still have a great chance to win this series as MS doesn't have any depth on the mound. Go Vols!!!

Stratton is pretty brilliant, and this was a helluva game.

Overall a great game, but unfortunately some poor execution during the extra innings.

  • Not being able to execute a bunt (in the 10th I think) with a runner on 1st and no one out
  • Then the base runner getting picked off at first base by the catcher (this should never happen)
  • Our pitcher should have known he had a play at third in the 11th when the ball was bunted back to him, and gone there immediately. Could have been a big out.

That was ugly. Do people actually enjoy college baseball? UT made some stupid plays to strand men in scoring position. I tell ya, title 9 kills the quality.

Great game to watch. Would the Vols have lost that game last year under the other coach?
