Tennessee returned to the Haslam Field practice grounds Monday, working for two hours as Alabama preparations moved into first gear.
"It's good to be back in game week," head coach Phillip Fulmer said. "We had good work last week and had an opportunity to get a couple of guys who were banged up some rest. We had a lot of fundamental work and hopefully got a good start on Alabama."
Head athletic trainer Keith Clements reports excellent health this week for the Vols -- a welcomed respite after losing defensive back Jason Allen for the season in the Georgia game and having numerous pesky injuries throughout the season's first half.
Tennessee now looks to make the most of its final off week of the season and prepare for a season-ending stretch of six consecutive games.
"Anything after a loss is not worth a darn," Fulmer said. "But when you have to deal with it for two weeks -- we've had the pain of regret we've had to deal with for two weeks and that isn't any fun. This is a new week and a new opportunity."
HOSTETTER KNEE SURGERY ENDS HIS 2005 SEASON
Sophomore defensive end Jared Hostetter underwent an open surgical procedure on his right knee last week at UT Medical Center and is out for the remainder of the 2005 football season.
The Louisa, Ky., native played in only three games during his freshman season after battling back from an ankle injury, but two of those were the SEC Championship Game and Cotton Bowl.
"We are hopeful for a return during the 2006 season," head athletic trainer Keith Clements said.
UT-SOUTH CAROLINA SCHEDULED FOR EVENING KICKOFF
The Southeastern Conference announced Monday that Tennessee's Oct. 29 contest against South Carolina is being televised either by ESPN or ESPN2 and kicks off at 7:45 p.m. Eastern time. The game marks Tennessee's first home night affair of 2005 and second appearance on the ESPN family of networks this season.
The Vols lead the series against South Carolina 19-2-2 and have won the last 12 meetings, including 43-29 last season in Columbia. The decision on ESPN or ESPN2 televising the UT-South Carolina game will be made no later than Oct. 24 and the start time will not change regardless of network.
Tennessee's only previous cable television appearance this season was the dramatic 30-27 overtime victory at LSU. Originally scheduled for Sept. 24 on ESPN, the game was moved to Sept. 26 on ESPN2 and became that channel's most-viewed college football telecast in history.
Other SEC teams involved in Oct. 29 televised games feature Mississippi at Auburn on Jefferson-Pilot Sports (11:30 a.m. Central) and Georgia vs. Florida in Jacksonville on CBS (3:30 p.m. Eastern).

Tailgate-style food, the UT pep band and cheerleaders, door prizes and "Rocky Top" will greet Vol fans at the "Big Orange Tailgate Tour" prior to Saturday's game in Tuscaloosa. Festivities begin at noon Central time next to Friedman Hall behind fraternity row, just one block from the north entrance to Bryant-Denny Stadium.
