Vols nearing deal to open 2024 against NC State in Charlotte

It's tough to pull off a home for a one-off event. Bigger non-conference matchups usually are home and home 2 year deals.

Really dislike the neutral site games, much prefer a home and home series. These take away value from season ticket holders.

Report: Tennessee Football Finalizing Deal To Play ACC Foe In 2024 | Rocky Top Insider
From a fan prospective I completely agree.

But this is a great recruiting move to get some eyes on us in person for kids that might not make it to Knoxville easily.

Charlotte is within 2-3 hours or so of most of NC as well as most of SC. Lots of good players that may not think about Tennessee until they see them live.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather drive 2 hours to Knoxville for the game but I can be in Charlotte in 1:45 so I’ll be there.

The AD is going to have a hard time getting a home and home because of the short notice. Kick off games are good for recruiting and national exposure anyway. We'll likely be the best game week 1. It is what it is.

I'd really like to see some change to the rules about hosting recruits at neutral venues, if we're going to keep scheduling these things. I think I just saw Kirby saying something about that since Georgia and Florida is always in Jacksonville.

"Tennessee’s other scheduled marquee non conference matchups include a home-and-home with Nebraska in 2026-27, a neutral site game against West Virginia in 2028 and a home-and-home against Washington in 2029-30."

I certainly would never call UVA a "marquee" opponent. Depending on their hire, Nebraska may also not be worthy of that description in a couple of years.

Decent pickup considering the slim pickings remaining.

The reason for neutral sites is always recruiting and with UGA doing so well in Georgia, we need to make North Carolina known as greater Tennessee.

Destroying NC State helps with that.

You know Kirby, you could quit playing the damn game in Jacksonville. The NCAA is not holding a gun to your head. UGA can simply not renew the contract.

I wish Tennessee would start a yearly rivalry game against North Carolina in Charlotte.

WEST Virginia, not UVA. Not exactly Ohio State, Notre Dame, or Southern Cal. either, but have had some pretty good teams in the past.

i would like to see them do a conf challenge type deal . where the conf champs play ,#2,plays #2 .3 on 3 ,and so on would make for some nice start of the season match ups and def shake up the polls, also could rotate to a diff conf every year .and take the best records out of the group of5 to create the last conf games, fill remaining games

Do you know many UNC fans?

I'd rather play the Taliban in Afghanistan than UNC in Charlotte. The Taliban are much more reasonable and down to earth than the typical UNC fan
