Granted, it's against NIU so expectations should be tempered. Small ball will do wonders for them, I believe.

PS - I hope I don't jinx the Vols as they are up 7-1 in the final inning

Let's face it, Hamilton made some bad hires in his time as AD, but Raleigh was the ultimate clunker. Serrano is the baseball teams answer to Sal Sunseri.I realize Serrano was also hired by Hammy, but that was after Raleigh set the program back by years. It will take a couple of years, but UT BB will be back at the top of the SEC.:p

Actually I think Hammy was already gone at time of hire was Joan Cronan I think???

MH knew Serrano well since he had been assistant coach for Delmonico for a couple of years. He was also the runner up to Raleigh and did not get the job primarily because he had not graduated from a college/university - which was a posted requirement. That along with MH falling for TR's schtick of playing long ball. They got the degree issue fixed on the posting as MH was singing his swan song with Cronan getting credit for the hire. MH obviously recommended the hire.

You can't give Hamilton any credit. He botched this hire and this time around everyone and their brother knew CDS wanted the job and should have it.

Raleigh's pipe dream of "gorilla ball" was just that.. you can't win baseball games like that unless you're the New York Yankees. I agree that the new small ball approach will help this team out alot.. especially with the BBCOR bats.

Took advantage of their opportunities to score when they had them, very happy Chris Fritts had 6 rbis, and the pitching was outstanding.
Even when the NI Huskies got it down to one run it didn't matter because Chris Fritts was a problem they could not contain in the second game.

"gorilla ball" is that another way of saying hit home runs?

You're right. Fritts had 2 doubles , a home run and 7 RBI's in yesterdays double header. THat's a pretty productive day if you ask me. Great job Vols.

Did he clear the bases with his double in the 10-5 game 2 win?
I hope he can continue to prosper through the rest of the season.

More so in reference to the philosophy Raleigh tried to implement putting "home run hitters" 1-9 in the lineup in hopes we would hit a ton of homers. Never really panned out as evidenced by his results. Kind of an unrealistic goal to shoot for at the college level. Not many teams have more than 2-3 guys who can consistently hit home runs during the year as it is.
