Think about this in 2020 Tennessee won 3 football games, fired their coach. Clemson won 10 in the regular season. This year Tennessee beats Clemson soundly, now that’s progress.

NO, no, no........We won't have progress until we fire Banks and annoit NIco the starter next year right now.

This year we:

beat both last year's ACC Champion (Pitt) and this year's ACC Champ (Clemson)
beat 3 of the last 4 National Champions
won 11 games (first time since 2001)
beat 6 top 25 opponents (at the time we played them)
beat 2 teams in top 10 (both still in top 10 AL and Clemson)
laid an egg at SoCar or we would have been in playoffs

and all of this with the 127th ranked for passing yards allowed defense.

Tony turned us down for a better program and opportunity.... Virginia.... thanks coach

He actually stayed at Clemson, then left for Virginia the next year. That was an example of a guy who didn't strike while the iron was hot. His star was highest after 2020 and he should have taken the best offer available then. He came back, the Clemson offense sputtered with DJU and his options became far more limited, so he had to settle for UVA. Glad he didn't take the UT job.

After this week, I am of firm belief that the SEC is the best Conference in the NCAA and has been for a while. Competition on the field, facilities, schedules and recruiting are just some of factors.

If Ohio State, Michigan, or Clemson were in the SEC their recruiting results would be completely different. These schools recruit well but recruiting inside the Conference makes it more difficult.
The schedule (The Grind) would be more than they could handle week in and out which would result in more losses than they are use to as well. Their depth would be tested.

We don't have just one good coach but we do have more than 10.

In the SEC you struggle to make 7-8 wins a year in the other conferences you can see a path to an undefeated season. Clemson 8-0 vs ACC, 0-2 vs SEC. Michigan would have lost 2 this year as well as Ohio State.

IOW, I would take a SEC at 10-2 over a Big 10 or a ACC team with 1 or 0 losses.

While agree with what you are trying to say, Ohio State proved last night they can play with UGA, Probably Bama too. Their conference sucks but when you have good athletes you can play with anyone. Coaching cost them the game, you cant go stupid and Day did just that defensively and Offensively to lost the game.

They can play with anyone in our conference, but to do it against our schedule week in and week out, I truly believe it is a different outcome at the end of the season. Day is a great Coach, but if he had to face SEC competition weekly it would be different.

The decline started under Fulmer.

Yes it did, and his mistake was reading his press clippings too long. He finally got it and hired a new offense and OC, just hired the wrong one. If he had picked the right one he would have lasted a lot longer. UT decided to bolt not because of Kiffin's availability but because he linked himself with his father and sold the package. UT thought that was a good deal that would not last until end of season, so they jumped on it with both feet.
