While we were all getting amped up for the game, the NCAA snuck their next release of the RPI out under our noses. Going into last night the Vols were number 3 in the RPI!!! :D

RPI released Tuesday Feb 7

If we end up being a #2 seed, that will be the reason why.

To establish a point of reference, does anyone here actually believe UT is better than UCONN?

are we better no. can we beat them? I would say we could but it would take alot of things to go our way, like lofton and watson having a big game at the same time and wingate maning up....

UConn is a lot like LSU, except 10 times better. Cripes, editing, I sound like a frickin' idiots. LSU gave UConn all they wanted AT UConn. I think UConn was missing the Williams guy then, though...

With that said, I hope the Vols get another shot at LSU in the SEC Tourney. If just one of UT's guys gets hot, that could be the difference...

Our inside game has really improved since we played LSU, too. Guys like Wingate and Patterson have upped their game.

Not that much better. UCONN beat them by one at home in January.

I don't think we're better than UCONN, but I would be interested to see how UCONN plays against our style of play.

The RPI just indicates that we've played one of the hardest schedules in the country, very well. No denying that. The point about this as an indicator is that it has no confirmation bias. It goes completely by numbers. No ranking system is perfect, but I think it is better than human polls.

Yea thats what I was thinking, they are 2 very different styles of play, and I think we could hang with them and possibly beat them, but honestly on paper they out-match us.

I'm under no illusion that we are a FinalFour team or even Elite Eight.
But the higher our seed in the show, the better our chances of a first round win.
And then, playing us with just two days to prepare is a second round task that no team would relish. Sweet sixteen would be one dadgum whale of an accomplishment for these guys.

That said, we have to be careful to not run out of gas /w how thin we are on the bench. One injury would kill us... after playing sooooo many games so close together. I hope our guys don't get worn down.

Yeah, I've been looking for signs that this team might be wearing down since January. To Pearl and his staff's credit though, these guys seem to be incredibly well conditioned. Time will tell I suppose, but it's looking like that is yet another area where the Vols are surpassing expectations.

And don't write that "injury" word in any post ever again! :nono:
