Tennessee scored three runs on safety squeezes to take a 5-4 lead over No. 4 Florida through five innings and held on for the win, getting a game-ending 5-3 double play on a diving play by Zach Luther with the bases loaded in the ninth to even the weekend series against Gators on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Twice the Gators blew 2 leads, inability to defend vs the Bunt, Fritts produced on offense and defense a top 10 diving catch, the tables turned today it was the Gators that wasted opportunities stranding runners, Luther's last play was fantastic he stopped the ball tagged 3rd then threw to first.

the thing I like about this team is that they seem to be in every game they play in. you can certainly grow from that

You can already see CDS' imprint on the team. It only gets better from here as this roster is developed and new recruits come in. Go Vol!

Left a lot of runners stranded yesterday; the squeeze plays took care of that.

Beautiful double play to end the game

Is that a total of four leads?

Great game with big General Admission crowd. Long line at ticket booth is a great thing.

Thoughts...

(1) Florida is a tough matchup. Tons of left handed guys make it tough for our setup man (Steck) and closer (Blount). Florida got lots of guys on in 8th and 9th as Nick and Steck did well to close out threats with the eventual right hander.

(2) The season HR disparity between the 2 teams is insane. UF has 46 HRs as I think we have 13 or 14.

(3) Our pitchers are doing a much better job now than earlier keeping the ball down. We have a plan and everyone is getting the roles down. starter, reliever (Saberhagen), set up (Steckenrider) and closer (Blount) So far we are doing good in staying with the script with close games.

(4) The Vickash Ramjit guy from Florida is not a smart player. Yesterday he got caught on the "Sutcliffe move" (that move never worked for Rick Sutcliffe) and today he made the last out by simply lollygagging to 1st base on a ball he thought (incorrectly) was foul. Had he hustled the slightest bit, the game would have been tied with a go ahead runner at 2nd. O'Sullivan will have Ramjit on bench entire game tomorrow I bet.

(5) I can't believe we hit the ball so well today. 8 Hits!!! Wow!

(6) Davis Morgan had a bad day at 1B to say the least. One error leading to 2 unearned runs in 3rd. He also made a bad decision on a ball that needed to be allowed to roll foul. That should have been an error but was not.

(7) Why does every Florida fan under 30 look like a "Jersey Shore" reject?

(8) It's impossible for any woman over 45 to yell "GO GATORS!" without sounding like the Wicked Witch of the West.

(9) Ethan Bennett's hit was his biggest in weeks of course getting thrown out at home was not best baserunnning I ever saw.

(10) Florida has as many starters batting over .300 as we have starters below .300

I liked your assessment. I have a couple more thoughts.

1. We are catching the Gators at a good time, they aren't at full strength. This makes today's game crucial. The next two SEC foes are beatable, but both of those series are on the road and, so far, we're not great on the road.

2. Can't say enough about Maddox and Kidd, two freshmen, contributing big time.

3. Fritts continues to make timely plays in center field.

4. Base running has improved since the start of the season.

5. Thornton has now missed two scheduled starts.

This, I know its baseball, and its good to see the ball team competing against the best in college baseball...serrano is gonna be the best hire in Tennessee for a long long time..

Replayed the game winning double play from Saturday over and over again. That was an excellent call by the umpire as the ball was snagged either over the line or just over the line past the bag. The ball would had to have gone over the bag. It bounced just inside the baseline once.

I wished the replay had showed Ramjit dogging it up the baseline like I saw. Meandering up the line and actually running well outside the baseline about halfway down.

The ball was made to look foul as Luther's momentum after making the snag carrier him about 2 feet outside the line.

However, the second safety squeeze in the 4th I think showed our runner was out however. Did not matter though
