Tonight the Vols looked exactly how they should look after taking a couple of tough losses on the road. I can remember being on unranked Vol teams and getting a chance to play a Top 25 team at home. It give you lots of extra energy that leads to aggression as you have a chance to send a message. Everybody knows that to Be somebody, you have to beat somebody and the Vols did just that tonight. I saw alot of adjustments from a coaching standpoint that allowed our guards to be in a better posistion to penetrate. We set a lot of high ball screens with our big men to keep the defense off balance allowing our gaurds to get into the heart of the D. This also allowed us to draw more fouls and for a scorer the free throw line is your best friend. Golden and McCrae stepped up Big-time for us when it mattered the most and its all because of the situations that their coach put them in. We did have a problem of giving up a few too many offensive rebounds, but that was offset by a group of guys that proved they have the "Will to Win." I saw so many steps in the right direction tonight and i saw room to improve at the same time. Thats a good combination at this point of the year because you want to win games but you don't want to reach your peak yet. My senoir year here we had a hot start but by the time we got into SEC play teams we ready for what we had to offer. We fizzled out in the end. This Vols team is still in the early parts of their season and just took a giant leap in the right direction as they attacked the basket all night w/o settling for 3's. Now we build on this W and until next time GO VOLS!!! I'd Love to hear everyones feedback and thanks for your time! #VFL44

Isiah, first off, the spelling of your name throws me off because my brother spells it different :)

Second, I thought that overall, we were quicker in our moves. Instead of reacting to the defense, we made the defense react. Would you agree with that?

Also, would you make Golden the #1 scoring option on the team, and use him in more pick-n-roll situations?

Yea alot of people spell my name with two a's as is in the Bible. I think that they are making Golden the first option and we definitely came out swinging tonight. Now we need to duplicate this effort going foward.

Isiah, thank you for what you bring to this board. I remember watching you play in many great games in your Vol career. One sticks out to me and I believe it was an OT game against Florida. In 2000 I think? Anyways, thanks for your analysis and good to see a former Vol on the board!

Cuonzo will flat out get it done here I have no doubt about that, my only concern is that they look so good at home and on the road they fall apart, they did it last year too, if they can bring it up just a little on the road they'll be NCAA tourney bound, because I don't think they lose more than 1 or 2 in TBA

Thanks for the kind words and the more it seems like my point of view is wanted on the board , the more ill offer. That was against Florida. I did an interview with Dickie V after that game and when we flew back to Knox that night students already had the Rock painted. It read "All Hail To The Victor #44"... Very special moment

What is wrong with Stokes' rebounding? Is it laziness?

I remember that. I was a college intern at a Lexington TV station, and the sports anchor wanted the game to end in regulation, so he would have a final score to report during the 11pm sports. You ruined his segment! I had a blast sending updated scores downstairs during the two OTs.

I can still hear him saying, "Watch Tennessee battle for the rebound..." And, then he has to skip from the tying basket to the current score, since it was too late to update the highlights.

I think that foul trouble is the reason why Stokes wasnt more aggressive. Everybody has those games when they feel like they are being targeted by the referees. Its a tall task to play w/o fouling and still be agressive on a night like that, especially for a freshman. It didnt help that he was guarding such a crafty, energetic player in Hall. Its all apart of the learning peocess for the young fellow.

I will admit that I don't really follow our basketball teams (mens or womans). I always check to see if we won or not but do not follow closely. I listened to the game on the radio last night and have to say I was proud of the team last night. They seemed like they never gave up. Would it be fair to say that our team is a scrappy team?

Thats usually what teams shoot for. Win all of your home games and get whatever you can on the road. Most players love playing at home bc they can feed off of the crowd. Roads games arent for everyone, especially in some of the hostile environments that the SEC has to offer. As I grew older as a player I loved playing on the road. Nothing like making a big play and quieting thousands of people! This team will have to find enough players that are fearless enough to go to war in another teams city and TAKE what they want!

Lol Most people in Lexington dont like me anyway. Once you turn down UK and chose UT they tend to give you cold stares when they see you.

Absolutely. That's one thing you can count on with a Martin coached team, they will be scrappy and give effort.

So gave someone shed some light on why we have had problems scoring? I mean some of the point totals this year have been extremely surprising.

Lack of shooters is one simple reason. When the defense can sag back and you can't shoot it makes things pretty difficult.

When we are at our best we are definitely a scrappy team.

I haven't watched a game yet so I wasn't sure the reason why we weren't scoring many points. Do we slow the tempo of the game way down to help out with the fact that we don't really have any shooters?

I know, I know, I know I really need to watch a game... and I will. I usually watch at least one basketball game a year. Usually more but always catch at least one.

The low scoring games yes the tempo was very slow, we didn't push it at all. Last night there was definitely am obvious effort to push the ball more and also drive to the rim more. The result was us putting up near 70 points agains a team that hasn't given up 70 all year, so good result.
