Vols to#4 in USA today

We didn't play like a #3 team so I's say it's a fair rating, what I'm more surprised about is Auburn falling out of the top 25 after a close lose to a ranked team.

Possibly, Milo. Looks like we may have a fight with those leghumpers when they come to town. Making out for a heckuva record if we go undefeated.

Louisville was one play away from losing to lowly kentucky and they didn't lose any spots in the polls...we just ain't sexy.

No we're not. I think if we would have won 24 - 10 we probably wouldn't have dropped...maybe to 4 in the AP. Not like any of us can be too upset about it though. Win at UF and LSU and the chatter will begin.

What I don't get is everyone saying that taking a knee instead of scoring is the classy thing to do and then turn around and wonder why we dropped in the polls. While I agree, it probably is the classy thing to do, it isn't always the best thing to do. Point is, to stay high in the polls or to get people talking about you, you almost have to run up the score any chance you get anymore. Look at USC, they pour it on...as did UM last year with Utah etc etc....

Oh well, time to focus on UF.....

Yeah, but they didn't exactly try to run the clock out either. Anyway, my point was you almost have to be flashy and score a lot to win over the pollsters these days....at least that's part of it. Good hard fought games don't count for much unless you're Louisville or Va Tech etc....

There are not a lot of points between us and those right below us in either poll, and we have an off week upcoming. It is not inconceivable that we might fall further before getting a chance to play again.

You just gotta think that some of this is Phil not wanting to tip his hand before Florida. He has many years of experience at this, so you have to think there's a method to the madness. Execution, or lack there of, is why we won ugly. We should have won by 3 touchdowns, easy.

Anybody watch UGA play? I hope lady luck is with us this year.

UGA sure looked good, but I also think Boise may have been exposed for what they really are a bit. A good team that has nowhere near the talent to compete with the big boys....I wish Utah would have played a real BCS caliber team last year to see what they really had because Pitt was a joke.

This really isnt a surprise considering how we played against a pretty sub par non-BCS caliber team.

Louisville should have dropped going to the wire against a sub-par Vanderbilt caliber team.

Now let's be realistic. We didn't drop in the polls because we took the knee and killed the clock. We dropped in the polls because our team didn't live up to expectations and by doing so fewer voters thought we deserved the 3rd place ranking.

Everyone in their right mind, except some of us die hard Vol Fans, have to respect Coach Fullmer for not putting 7 more points on the Board. Coach showed true class and sportsmanship. :clapping: :clapping: If we have scored another 7, (and we could have), we would have looked no better in the eyes of those voting in the polls. Since we didn't run the score up on Coach Watson Brown, we all know that we are a truly class act. :good:

I had rather be seen as a class act than to be thought of as a team that will try to embarrass and degrade their opponents.

My vote is the Vols get 75 Atta-Boys for taking the knee. They did the right thing. Admittedly, I, but not my booky :naughty: , would have liked to have seen us cover the spread. My wallet is a little lighter but I can hold my head because my team will be remembered as "Sportsman". :peace2: :peace2:

UGA looked good, and I can tell you after watching the first half of that game, it was Boise State's own fault they played bad. Georgia had nothing to do with it, Boise State gave them air so that's what the Dawgs played against. One of the worst BSU performances in a long long while. If the Broncos had actually given any effort, the game would have been closer.

Other than that, Shockley did look like he was clicking pretty well with his WR's. But it's not too hard to complete passes against DB's that decide to sit around instead of play.

Yeah yeah yeah, I agree KY, I'm just the kind of person who likes to see a lot of points on the board. Last year when we beat UNLV 42 to 17 were you wishing that we didn't have that many points? No you weren't. :p

I also realize that something could have gone wrong if we attempted to score again.

Sure Fulmer is a class act, no doubt about it, but football is a rough and tough sport, what's class got to do with it?

I'm just glad we got the win and hope we have a better showing against UF. Go Vols....
