ok guys, since we are kinda talking about it in like 5 threads im just going to make one for it. what are the keys to the vols run in the tourney. what matchups really scare you that the vols could face. whats wintrop's game? how about WSU or Seton hall? what do you think about a UNC or Michigan state Matchup later down the line? how deep do you got the vols going in your brackets?

I would have to say...

1.Shooting %
2. Defense
3. Turnovers
4. Rebounding
5. Does the team have someone who can shut Lofton down?

We're at our best and our defense is at its best when we are knocking down shots, setting up the press and forcing turnovers which help make up for our lack of rebounding...

I can handle losing to sweet 16 to MSU, but i still think we can beat them if we can pressure there big guys into enough turnovers. we will be so close to tennessee that i think we will have the crowd advantage. we will just have to wait and see though.

If South Carolina can shut him down, WSU, MSU, UNC can easily. Tennessee has an easier road now with a 2 seed, but still tough games. We're NOT a 2 seed caliber team. I'm praying we get into the Sweet 16 because anything can happen there.

Yeah, I was just looking at Winthrop's roster and their shortest guard is 6'6. Lofton seems to have the most trouble with the taller guards...

heres something to think about. We all know that win the game is truly a big game, lofton steps up and he just drills his shots. now with the tourney being here, does anyone think he wont shoot at least 15 shots a game? if lofton fires 15 a game, he will make his shots. he will get his points.

also you have to remember we are playing teams that have more likely then not never seen the full court press. So that will work to our advantage. we just cant have any of them halfs of shooting 20 percent. that will totally kill us.

That statement made absolutely no sense. Have you even seen USC play this year? USC's man to man defense is as good as or better than every team you just listed. They had trouble winning some games this year because of their inept offense. But, their defense was great this season. Probably the best half court man to man defense in the SEC. And, they had played UTK twice and "knew their opponent" which is something that will not be the case for all those schools you listed.

A round three game with the spartans would be in DC. Not really very close.
I think we would travel well if we got that far, but I don't know about a crowd advantage.

It makes plenty sense. The three teams I listed are all better and more athletic teams than South Carolina. SC has a good D, I know. Those other 3 teams do as well. My post wasn't a knock on SC, but merely stating that it's not impossible for teams to shut down Lofton.

Winthrop will be able to work inside against us, however, they don't have power conference caliber athletes to defend our outside scorers. Lofton, Watson, and Smith should have a hay day on Thursday.

I think the best 2nd round matchup for us would be against the Shockers, for the same reason as stated above. After that, we have to be on our A game the rest of the tourney. I say we might be able to beat the MSU/UNC winner, but will run out of magic against Illinois.

Ummm, OWB, where did you get Winthrop's roster? I have them having at least 2 sub 6' guards, one starting and the other is a key backup.

O, and I don't see why they are supposed to kill us inside. They have 1 guy that averages over 6 rebounds, 1 other that averages over 5, and 1 other that averages over 4. That is 3 that average over 4, not good. They shoot the 3 very well and have only 18 less than us on the year.
