As a UTM graduate of 1970 I am compelled to respond to a post on Volquest talking about my Vols "trouncing" UTM. Perhaps this is not the venue to express my disgust , however, I am going too anyway. First and foremost lets us not forget the butt whipping that South Carolina gave us this same year(almost as bad as this game 63-38). So even my Vols can wipe the bathroom floor up at times playing football.

You do understand UT-Martin is an FBS school and before the game kicked off they were going to get drilled!!!!

UTM was down 52-7 when we put in the reserves. That was the 2nd quarter. The final margin was 41 points. That exceeds the margin of the next week’s trouncing of Kentucky, 44-6. Trouncing is an accurate description.

You do understand Tennessee plays Martin as a favor to that instate college. UTM gets paid enough for that game to help their entire athletic dept. But yea you’re embarrassed and disgusted so let’s take any game where UTM might get trounced off the schedule and destroy the AD’s budget.

I was lucky enough to get an invitation to a skybox for this game and I witnessed Randy Boyd, some other UT staff and some state officials doing celebratory pushups after Hyatt scored to make it 31-7. It was awesome.
