Tennessee’s outsized defensive front requirements for winning battles against No. 4 Oklahoma’s cast of 330-pounders across its offensive line doesn’t require a hundreds-of-words explanation.

Pad level. Violent hands.

That’s it.

“We talk about two points of leverage in the game of football,” UT defensive coordinator John Jancek said after practice Wednesday. “One is, we’ve heard it since we’ve all been playing as young men, is low man wins. That’s referring to leverage.

“So you have to have great leverage and the second point of leverage is your hand placement. Inside hands wins."

hand violence, staying lower than fat slow big boyz, and sprinkle in some speed and agility and we are fine. I only worry about runs up the middle into the second level of our D.

I may be wrong, but wasn't our o line bigger than Oregon's d line?

As long as we don't do it in an elevator we should be good.

We won't be next year when McKenzie and Tuttle are the interior of that line and has Barnett and Hendrix as defensive ends. Gonna be a welcome change.

Unfortunately, I don't think stopping OU's running game will be that simple or easy. I think a far better strategy is cramming the box with 8-9 men and praying that our DBs can play lights out man coverage.

Whatever it is, we MUST stop the run and force their QB to throw. It's our best chance for success. Our D needs to play lights out to keep us in this game.

I may be overly optimistic. I think our DL will hold up fairly well. So far they have played much faster than last year. Opening up better lanes for the LB's to cause disruptions. Of course this week is a huge difference in talent.
