Wakey-leaks scandal

Maybe because its Wake Forest

I get that. But the team involved is less important than the action itself. Those games were basically fixed. I don’t care which teams were involved, that’s a big deal.

When Boston College players were involved in point shaving in 79-80, it was a big deal, even though it was just Boston College, not Kansas or Kentucky.

Boston College was also pretty good in basketball at that time, and there was Mafia involvement which makes it a much bigger story. Most of the time a story like that isn't going to get traction unless the team in question is making noise in some way. If SMU was winning 2 or 3 games a year when they paid players, that probably isn't anywhere near as big of a story either.

Wake Forest went 11-3 last year, won the Atlantic Division and played in the ACCCG. They’re making as much noise as that BC basketball program was, if not more. They just don’t have a big name or following…just like that BC program.

Yeah, but the scandal happened, what was it, 5 or 6 years ago now. Wake was awful around that time.

I don't necessarily disagree with you. It is a fascinating story that "should" have gotten more attention, but I think it is obvious why it did not. Wake was an awful team that nobody was really watching or cared about.

The stuff happened then, but the story hadn’t “broke” or been figured out then. But maybe this Atlantic piece is what will start the exposure. Guess we’ll see.

Ding ding ding. Wake Forest is one of the more anonymous, irrelevant P5 programs.
It’s one of 4 P5 in North Carolina and no one cares. Everyone calls it Switzerland because everyone views it as neutral. You don’t like them, you don’t hate them. They’re just there. I think they’re the smallest P5 school w/ around 3,200 undergrad.

I saw an interview with Henry Hill talking about this. My favorite quote of his in this interview was "I never threatened him. All I said was 'it is gonna be hard to play basketball with two broken arms.'"
