War in Ukraine

Outside of Kiev the east has some of the highest population density in Ukraine. And it's an actually productive area, russia has tons of resources but relatively little are as productive as eastern Ukraine. Grabbing this territory gives Putin a relatively easy boost in both economy and population.

With that population decline it seems really dumb to send your military to war, killing off at least some more of your healthy male population. the ensuing conscription debacle is also a head scratcher if he was worried about his population.

Putin only cares about power. His actions have proven as much. Ukraine was no longer solely under his thumb. His only option was war after HIS diplomacy failed.

I would agree on paragraph 2 in relation to most wars. As I have said, I think Putin miscalculated a few things, one of those being the West's response. No, that doesn't mean the West backed proxy is winning but it is causing Russia to commit more to this action.

Paragraph 1, I agree eastern Ukraine is resource rich, but Russia is already resource rich. The small bump in population and economy is not worth all of this.

Paragraph 3, like any leader, Putin is concerned with holding power. However, he is popular with a large segment of Russia despite what western propaganda says. Putin's slow, measured, and methodical demilitarization of Ukraine wasn't popular at home. Russians wanted a more aggressive approach. This doesn't fit the narrative you are selling.

Lol....how many of y'all believe these chicks are actually fighting?

They pretty though.
Depends on what you mean by fighting. They dont loom kitted out for front line fighting, but there are any number of non combat roles that would be worthy of praising.

Plenty of opprotunity for them to earn their keep, and any honor they want, working logistics, medical, or information. Especially in this day in age, but even going back you have cases like MASH or the Redball Express.

Also plenty of combat adjacent roles as observers, or in the artillery, that wouldnt require them to be hand to hand with Russians.

If my count is right yall up to 60 destroyed, give or take a handful.

They supposedly were sent 16, although I have read that we may have sent them a few more than we said. Whatever. Roughly half the 16, 6 to 8, were destroyed before their offensive. Since then, Russia has destroyed a few more. I doubt they have many left at this point, which the severe decrease in their attacks would suggest is true.

Your response to paragraph 3 explains the why behind your response to paragraph 1.

Putin needed a hard win to sell. The soft win of holding Crimea wasnt enough. He needed to sell his strength. Kinda of like the Italians getting involved in WW2, Putin wanted to lose a few thousand men so he would have a place to sit at the bargaining table.

So just to put a number to it to pin you down.
We started with somewhere around 16, let's round up to 20 in case the US did get sneaky. You think Ukraine lost about half, using 6. That's down to 14. Then you just said they just recently lost another 2, so down to 12.

Does that seem fair/somewhat accurate as a baseline for you?

Imagine being "a world superpower" and having to depend on a second tier power for weaponry to defeat your little brother.

Iran is about to call some smoke down on themselves. They are in a precarious position at the moment. But desperate regimes that need to use force to cling to power....... that's been Russia's bread and butter for the past decade.

They did take parts of Georgia. And in January he very clearly had other targets on his mind with his huge military build up on Ukraine's border. Stop acting like Putin is some paragon or virtuous activity.
What parts of Georgia did he take?

He didn't want to take it to this point. They had a deal on the table in April and then BoJo flew in and nixed the deal. And for that matter, even before 02/24/2022, Putin was hoping Minsk ceasefire agreements would be implemented in the previous 8 years.
Right, BoJo definitely has the authority to force Ukrainian soldiers to continue fighting. Definitely doesn’t sound like Russian disinformation at all.

Impressive that Ukraine can keep fighting after losing “10 times as many soldiers a as Russia” so far.
Yeah. The suggested casualty rates are staggering. More than 1/4 of a deployed Ukrainians are apparently out of the fight. Russia should have been able to push them over with a pillow instead of needing to triple their force.

They believe these numbers too, that six missiles damaged 10 regions, because "the Ukrainians said so!"

Ugh, havent you been paying attention? Russia has been targetting the power infrastructure. One missile strike taking out a substation or transformer could easily impact multiple regions, especially with the damage done already to the system.

The tweet says the infrastructure in ten regions was actually damaged by six Russian missiles. If it said 10 regions were merely affected, your point would be valid.

The USA relies on military equipment from Iran, Haiti, Central African Republic, Djibouti, Bolivia, and so on and lost to the Taliban.

Taking out a substation that serves multiple regions would still be damaging the infrastructure in those regions.

There is nothing weird about spouting that a world leader is fighting the devil and going to save the soul of humanity.....
Nothing at all. No one in history has ever falsely claimed that prerogative to justify their own atrocities.

You know as long as you ignore all of history. Like literally all of it.

No one in history? Read about the Crusades. Read about George W. Bush's Crusade in Iraq that God "told him to do," and recall back to so many of the prayers of priests and rabbis in Neyland Stadium before kickoff, when they were spouting the same BS.

Stuff the Pentagon spent our money on and still couldn't win its war.
It's decreased in the last year according to your article........ And we still haven't defined the items. They are imports...... Of something.

Yet Russia is importing ballistic missiles and kamikaze drones from second tier world powers.

They aren't the same thing.
