It would appear they are regrouping again in Kherson. But there are also quite a few reports that they are taking shelter within civilian housing inside Kherson to attempt to repel the expected coming Ukraine assault. I guess we will see if they stay to fight this time. Even their elite Wagner mercs got destroyed in 48 hours at Bakhmut and these guys supposedly are worn our contract soldiers augmented with the recent conscripts so I’d expect the quality is not there.

Volume. We spend a lot of money building a fewer extremely expensive high tech weapons ... with problematic reliability because of complexity. The other approach is flood the place with hordes of low tech weapons - which also works well. That's the nature of drone warfare - looks like everybody is playing catchup to that twist and Ukraine is the proving grounds. It can be a cost thing. Do you spend tons of money on expensive air defense systems to counter cheap drones, or do you develop new and far cheaper stuff to neutralize the drones - and do we have the ability to develop any cheap and effective weapons like a big shotgun to take down drones like you might a duck. Those drones aren't going to have effective countermeasures - just numbers.

He could go to the Europeans, who are starting to get a little shaky (what a surprise) and declare the occupied provinces as a demilitarized buffer zones with UN peacekeeper forces keeping both sides militaries out BUT Ukraine would reestablish governmental authority over the provinces. Ukraine agrees to not join NATO. Putin gets to claim he secured Russia's borders and forced the (imaginary) Nazis to retreat. Europe foots the bill to rebuild Ukraine and it would be declared a free trade zone between Russia and Europe.

Even though it is unfair, Ukraine doesn't get the Crimea back. It's pretty much been a Russian obsession since the charge of the Light Brigade.

Otherwise he is going to have to use tactical nukes/ dirty bombs and watch Russia become more isolated. He cannot let this thing go on for years and he can't afford to actually lose, as in Afghanistan.

Generally such things are won and lost on the battlefield or at the negotiating table. We are seeing that play out right now. How it ends I don't know, but neither side will care how the people in any region will want to vote.

So basically, you are saying that Putin's "face‐saving" agreement would be the Minsk ceasefire agreements... wow.
