Warren Buffet spent $1.5 M Lobbying for Tax Breaks

The NetJets effort will deprive the government of roughly $25 million in annual revenue over the next three years.

In the big picture, $25 million over 3 years is nothing when you have a $4 trillion budget. Not that I'm condoning what was done, but I'm just saying.

It's small potatoes to the government, sure. But the point is the business world's darling of the left is a fraud.

I also read that he went to court to dispute taxes the IRS claimed he owed, rather than just paying them.

the worst part of the story

The provision's revenue neutrality, however, is a product of how it's been framed. The legislation appears cost-free to taxpayers only over a 10-year period: In fiscal year 2013, the first full year the new provision kicks in, it'll cost taxpayers $23 million in lost revenue, according to an analysis by the JCT. The following two years, it costs $26 million and $28 million, respectively.
It becomes revenue neutral, in the eyes of Congress, by expiring. In 2016, the provision simply goes away, and the tax policy reverts to the previous structure (over which NetJets initially sued). With the provision gone, according to the JCT analysis, the industry starts paying more into the treasury: $101 million over the subsequent three years, 2016 to 2018. It raises a similar amount over the rest of the decade.
Of course, once the provision is in place, there is nothing to prevent NetJets from lobbying to extend that provision in 2016 to delay its expiration. The termination date has a happy consequence for K Street, too, as companies like NetJets are pressured to keep paying lobbying fees to keep the tax cut in place.

Am I missing something here? He was lobbying on behalf of his company...okay.

He was wanting to pay higher taxes as an individual.

What company doesn't want tax breaks?

What company doesn't want tax breaks?

Isn't it about "fairness"?

Individuals want tax breaks too - Buffet takes every break he can get.

Ignoring the disingenuous nature of his current proclamation in light of his career spent avoiding taxes is silliness, ignorance or both.

I have said it many times before on here.......WB cares about no on except WB. Every thing he does, corporate or personal, is calculated to maximize WB's money.
I love it because BH makes me money! Lots of MONEY!

I know my place...I am a liberal surrounded by conservatives. Doesn't mean I won't try.

I can count on one hand whom I presume to be on the left on this board. Lol

I guess the question is how do you separate a) his call for individuals to pay their fair share with b) a company he owns using every means necessary to secure a tax break other companies don't get.

Does he believe companies are paying beyond their fair share? Does he favor special breaks if you can "buy" them?

Honestly, I don't know. I don't know enough about him or his business ethics to make a sound judgement...though it appears he is not as he seems.

From what I've read about Buffet, he does not get involved in the day to day operation of the businesses he owns. As many businesses as he owns, that's not difficult to believe.

With a direct family member that was the Chairman, CEO and Pres of a BH owned company, I can attest to that. He had them all to the ranch once a year, I was lucky enough to attend one year, and had very little direct contact during the year.
Now, this company was very profitable, I can not say that he did not get more involved witha company that might have been struggling.
