Warren Sapp files for bankruptcy with more than $6.7 million of debt - ESPN

Former NFL star Warren Sapp owes more than $6.7 million to creditors and back child support and alimony, according to a Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing in South Florida.

Sapp's $6.45 million in assets includes 240 pairs of Jordan athletic shoes worth almost $6,500, a $2,250 watch and a lion skin rug worth $1,200. He also reported losing his 2002 Super Bowl ring with the Bucs and his 1991 national championship ring from the University of Miami.

It's crazy how bad athletes are with money.

Too bad people like Michael Jackson, Mike Tyson, Antoine Walker, Warren Sapp etc. didn't spend that money on stuff that would trickle down to the middle class. The economy would probably be doing a lot better if they had. Instead, they buy chess sets that cost 20,000, chandeliers that cost 40,000, rugs that cost 10,000, 10 cars that cost 100,000 apiece etc. The rich get richer off of dumb athletes.

By the way, how do you only have 6.45 million when you played 13 years? He was 12th overall so I'm guessing he got paid pretty well for his first contract and he was paid as a pro-bowler every contract after. If his house is included in that 6.45 million, that's kind of sad. Especially because he still owes another 6.7 million top of his small amount of assets which means he's technically negative.

I refuse to have any sympathy to a situation like this, not that he's looking for it, but give me a break.

Man, I remember hating that guy so much.

That really blows for him. I mean, how hard would it be to put a couple hundred thousand in a savings account? I say this now, but I don't know what I'd do if I were making that much money. I do really want to think there would be absolutely 0% chance of me ever going bankrupt though.

That's what I can't understand; I don't make anywhere near that kind of money but even I take some out of every check and put it in a savings account and act like I never had it.

I have a feeling that he's not as broke as he's making out.

Furthermore,....getting out from under the alimony that's probably based on what he used to make is the key.

And, he's only making about half a mil a year right now. Poor guy.

..exactly. He'll be okay.

"Sapp's average monthly income is $115,881"

I'm guessing this ahole can't stay out of casinos. What a complete loser.

His contract with NFL Network ends in August though. Also Pro Football Talk said one of the items taken away was a large painting of a nude woman :eek:lol:
