The Russian Defense Ministry and the Sukhoi aircraft maker signed on Tuesday a contract on the delivery of 64 Su fighters to the Russian Air Force.

The contract...........stipulates the delivery of 48 Su-35 by 2015, and 12 Su-27SM and four Su-30M2 multirole fighters by 2011.

.........................
Russia's Air Force commander, Col. Gen. Alexander Zelin, said in July that up to three air regiments would be equipped with Su-35 fighters in the future.

Russia also plans to export at least 160 Su-35 fighters to several countries including India, Malaysia and Algeria.

Wonder if Venezuela is on the list of other countries??

Important Venezuelan representatives are in Moscow negotiating more cooperation as we speak.

I would be interested in hearing what some of the posters with more military expertise think but is the focus moving toward unmanned aircraft?

I'm sure there will always be a need for fighter pilots but will those numbers shrink do to the UAV's or is it more about adding the UAV's to what they're already doing?

I was amazed to see the UAV's on '60 Minutes' Sunday and their capabilities. The controller was in Nevada taking out targets in Afghanistan.

That plane was so far better than what we put in the sky now it wasn't even close.

What we gonna do when Russia builds a similar plane and knocks every plane we own out of the air?

Go on a 20 country tour and apologize for the plane sucking so bad.

I believe we are starting to trend towards a fighter wing that will be both manned and unmanned complementing each other for the next gen.

Old timers, including myself (not so old) don't like completely switching over to UAV's, too many problems exist right now most importantly is what if they contact a virus or the enemy somehow gains control of them?

I didn't consider that. It would make that movie Maximum Overdrive more believable.
