Was there any weird defensive setups against South Carolina that you noticed

I saw three down lineman, and two linebackers lined up at one point with another linebacker standing crooked like he was going to take the slant away. That was weird.

But that linebacker was to the left side of the defensive ends side. He was angled and standing there. Anyone else notice that?

I’ve taken a look at some more of this video, and I can’t figure out some of these setups. Is there anyone out there that can?

Here's a very similar look against Bama. What we are doing is playing a 3-4 but taking out the 2nd OLB and replacing him with a NB (Mcdonald on this play). We can play head up and slant to an under front like we did on this play, or align in more of an under front like we did on the play above.

Saw a lot of pushing instead of tackling. Not sure if that counts as a “weird defensive set up,” but certainly not what you‘d expect from the number 5 team in the country with everything on the line. Apologies if I’ve cockblocked a strategic/tactical thread, no pun intended.

Arm tackling, bad pursuit angles, no pass rush, entire d played soft, no hustle, bad alignment, no coaching adjustments, no player leadership, poor attitudes, etc. etc. etc. There was however excessive chirping.

Speaks of lack of character and discipline. Wreaks of horrible coaching on the defensive side of things.

I thought it was odd that we didn’t blitz more often, especially when it became apparent that our D-line wasn’t generating consistent pressure. Dropping LBs into coverage wasn’t helping so I thought they would rush them more instead. No matter how you slice it up, our DBs just aren’t good enough to run with the better receivers, they’re not athletic enough to contest passes and win 50-50 balls, and they’re not strong tacklers. Our backend looks like high school team. It’s talent, and it would seem to be coaching too.

There was one play on 3rd and long where Rattler scrambled. He neared the first down marker and Flowers got to him. Flowers could have wrapped him up and kept him short, but he decided to reach up and push his helmet instead while Rattler glided past him for the first down.

That was definitely weird.

We are the most blitz heavy team in the SEC. We were blitzing. We just weren't getting home.
Even when we do get home, we struggle with bringing him down. I cant tell you how many times we’ve just whiffed in the backfield this season and what should’ve been a 7 yard loss ends up being a 20 yard gain. Just poor tackling and slowness.

We desperately need better athletes.

100%. I mainly attribute BY's greatest to what I saw in the Bama game, but I'm sure it's a bit of both. I've never seen a QB get away from more pressure.

With how spread out we were it’s tougher to blitz and I think we hesitated on sending the LBs some against SC without Banks there to either be the blitzer or clean up on the back end. You’re right though, we’re very aggressive, partially to mask that horrible secondary. It’s a smart game plan.
