Another Washington state lawmaker made some nasty comments toward Richard Petty. Speaker of the House Frank Chopp implied the King of NASCAR looked like a drunken felon, saying You mean the guy who got picked up for DUI?"
For the record, Mr. Petty does not drink alcohol. A spokesperson for Petty said Chopp later apologized and the team owner considers the issue over and done with.
I think I remember hearing Seattle is the most educated city in the US? I forget where. I know it has to be among the most educated out there, that's for sure. It also means stodgiest. I remember hearing about new plans for a track in Bremerton. I need to go see how that is coming along. It's worse - I saw a segment where they interviewed Seattle residents. Basically, they used the word "white trash" a lot. To be fair, it was just 3 or 4 people on the street but for a supposedly "tolerant" city, they showed a lot of negativity towards the "NASCAR crowd".

I can see NASCAR's interest in it though, based on numbers. If there's one thing King County is full of, it's extremely affluent people with seven figure incomes. Bevery Hills is to the rich and famous, as Seattle is to successful business people. It causes professional sports leagues to see nothing but dollar signs, which in turn leads to franchises like the Mariners, Seahawks and Supersonics, none of whom have exactly enjoyed the best of success throughout the years.
Hm... No, that's Portland (except for the Blazers). Seattle is just not that much of a sports town. Both Portland and Seattle do have a lot, lot, lot of New England transplants. But none of them are sports fans. More of the type I mentioned earlier. They probably have the "Atlanta" problem. Lot's of sports fans but they're all imports from other states -- and other teams. Atlanta if full of pro-sports fans, just not Braves, Falcons, Hawks, etc.
