I have to keep reminding my wife to not get salads anywhere. From what I’ve read, the majority of Romaine lettuce sold in the US comes from the region with the e.coli outbreak, so the chances that someone would get lettuce from that region are high.

Spinach, Arugula and Radicchio are all good easy to find substitutes.

Used to buy the big bags of Romaine from Costco... nice heads for making salads. Stopped when folks in my town got sick.

Still see the stores peddling the lettuce... don't understand why that is not pulled?

Took my chances on green leaf lettuce. Romaine is pulled from the shelves I’ve seen around DC

If it’s from California it’s fine. Everything that’s contaminated has come out of Arizona

Had a Caesar Salad at Chesapeake's. Confirmed that Copper Cellar Family supply is coming from California. No problems.

I'm hearing the bad lettuce is coming from Yuma, Arizona.

You've piqued my interest. Got a recipe?

Nothing to it: I usually use the hearts and cut them in half lengthwise. Spray or light drizzle of good oil (grapeseed, olive, etc), a little salt/pepper or spice blend, and literally hit them for about 1 minute or so on a hot grill, turning once. You don't want to melt them down, just char and slightly wilt the edges. Plate with shaved parm, other veggies if you like (chopped tomatoes, artichokes, English cukes, etc) and a little vinaigrette. Voila!
