Pretty interesting. I can't stand the guy but sadly, I think he suffers from hatred because of success. I will say though, he can sure turn on fake charm for the camera.

Interesting points
- Says his team will not be very good at first. Typical coach speak but goes into detail to say they will have bad shot selection, will break down on defense late in the shot clock, will not be very disciplined ect... Says they can be really good in Feb - March though.

- Made a point that he doesn't have a magic wand to turn players into NBA quality. Says you gotta want it and work hard. I do like that. I also liked how he pointed out UKs academics with all of that talent.

- ESPN Anchor says "Your one of the best recruiters in the country and I'm going to Notre Dame. Give me your best Pitch". Coach Cal "Your going to Notre Dame to play for one of the best coaches. I don't mention other teams and I (basically don't steal players") lol.

last part was a little over the top because every coach in America wouldn't just accept, I'm going to (insert school) and you be done with it. Your going to push for a kid you want.

Either way, it would be a lot easier to "put up" with Coach Cal and not hate him if he had a couple of losing seasons. :)

They also had Roy Williams on earlier. He talked about dealing with tumors and cancers and stuff in the offseason. Has been limited but will be full speed for the season. Says he promised Dean Smith he would coach until he was at least 66, same age as Smith but could coach longer as long as health allows him too.

Yah. He torched the whole interview with that little bit of garbage. Even the ESPN chick sort of gave him a blank stare like "huh". You don't get the best classes in the country every single year for just settling.

I was negative on Cal before he was at UK but what I like about him has nothing to do with the players - it's the way he goes out of his way to include people. After they won a title he took the trophy and went on a 2 day tour of the state, showing it to folks who may not be able to get up to Lexington for a game but love the cats. I respect someone who sure doesn't need to do something like that taking his time to show he knows his place in the long history of this program.

Another example I remember is fundraising for a town that had been destroyed by a tornado earlier this spring. There was a radio show from Louisville that went to a small town called West Liberty and they called Joker and Cal to see if they'd call in from Lexington to give their support and help with the fundraiser. Not only does Cal agree, he actually matches donations (up to 25K). If that weren't enough he decided the day before he'd actually make the trip as well.

One last example I like was more recent than the others. I'm not sure if you saw midnight madness but he brought in a representative from each of UK's championship teams and they did a bit where they 're-raised' the championship banners.

I like that Cal, who has proved to be wildly successful still takes the time to think about others and include them. I know the more cynical of you will say his motives aren't true and I have no way of knowing that or not. What I do know is how big Joe B smiled while he was raising the banners at UK last Friday and regardless of Cal's motives that was special to see.

Sorry, didn't mean for this to be a rant.

The only negative takeway was that Cal was only 1 of 4 from the free throw line in that interview.

;)

I heard about the trophy tour but not the other stuff. And it is nice for Cal to do things like that, especially since he's a major big shot so he gets cool points in my book. Cal is mostly hated because of his success.
