Watching Clemson is so Aggravating

From the perspective of current recruits, those teams in the nineties did not exist. None of them were even born yet when Tennessee was relevant.
I wasn't speaking from the perspective of current freaking recruits because I am not one of them. I am a 45 year old lifelong Vol fan whose memory for college football goes back to about 1981... The post I was replying to said that Clemson was "way better than anything Tennessee has ever put on the field" and that is highly debatable... and I took exception to it.

That which happened when we were in our twenties (or in my case 40s) really doesn't matter for the future which is what we should be concerned with.

I'm so glad Butch decided Trevor Lawrence didn't fit his system

What a damn dumbass
In reality he probably didn't decide that, most likely we were simply beaten in the recruitment. There is always some butt covering, face saving excuse that is trotted out if at all possible when that happens. We certainly aren't the only school that does that, but I am pretty sure we didn't say "screw you No. 1 recruit in the country", more likely he observed Botch had a dumpster fire brewing and lost interest.

God, are you really this thick? Because the 4th best team in the country shouldn't be getting their asses handed to them like this! They are in the playoffs because they are sports media darlings and the play by a separate set of rules. They are a joke who are pretending to be a relevant program, but in reality they are frauds!
Respectfully disagree. They picked a bad time to have an off game. ND just never got out of the gate today.

LOL you are totally missing the point. Whether ND accepts or rejects the invitation to the playoffs is completely irrelevant to this discussion. The bottom line is ND has nestled themselves into a situation where they can perennially get into the playoffs without enduring the grind of a power 5 conference schedule or compete in a conference championship game. That gives them a decided advantage over teams who are much better and much more deserving. The sports media overrates them every single year because they WANT so badly for ND to be relevant for god knows why. QED, they are FRAUDS!
Perennially in the playoffs? This is their first time in. Sounds like you have an axe to grind concerning ND. But since this is a Clemson thread, kudos ttu o them for playing better when it counted.

You people really need to forget about Butch. Too much obsession on VN. Let it go. Live in the future, not the past.

No.

Butch upperdecked Neyland and I won’t forget it until after his **** has worked its way 100% out of the tank.

Clemson is way better than anything UT ever put on the field. UT was rarely even the best team in the conference. They have maintained a level of success that is second only to Bama.
Also respectively disagree...avoid absolutes. “Way better...anything....ever.” The UT teams from 1990 to 2001 produced as much NFL talent as anybody and beat Ohio St, Michigan, UCLA, Syracuse, and basically the SEC except for Florida. Clemson is really hot, but they were a 4th down away from Syracuse beating them. And lost to them last year. And the lost to football heavyweight Pitt the year before that.

Their 4 year run is impressive. But they aren’t untouchable. They’re not even in Bamas league and they will find out next game.

Bama Dave Hart hired Butch. Enough said. But Hart is also the man who got rid of the Lady Vols logo. Moves like this hiring is the reason we are in the bad shape we are in. Least now we got things under control with Fulmer. We got the right football coach. Just have to give him time. Look at Saban when he first got to Bama. Their fans wanted him fired the first couple years. Until he got HIS recruits in there.

And John Currie brought it back and UT fans hate him. So there's that...

I am going to be the contrarian here.

Notre Dame belonged in the playoff. Oklahoma belongs in the playoff. Ohio State has a case. Georgia has no case.

I see many arguments about having "the best". No one knows that until you go play. And for every team you take out, who are you going to put in?

Ohio State? Ok. Anyone see the Purdue-Auburn bowl game? Now, realize that Ohio State was boatraced by that Purdue team?

Georgia? You're going to put a 2 loss team ahead of conference champions with 1 loss and an undefeated?

UCF? So, Notre Dame with a bad schedule doesn't deserve to get in, but a UCF with a brutal schedule does?

I'm just playing devil's advocate with all of this because I think we are overlooking something a little more obvious (IMO). It's not what's wrong with Oklahoma, Notre Dame, etc., it's that Clemson and Alabama are on a different level than anyone else.

Having an axe to grind with Notre Dame is the American way. It is very very unamerican to pull for that ridiculous School

Maybe we can convince the backup QB at Clemson to transfer to UT. Surely he knows he will never start at Clemson as long as Lawrence is there.
He'll probably have better stats as the Clemson backup.

Unfortunately our fire got so low it finally went out...we are not a destination for the elite kids these days...Pruitt is gonna have to win with the players he can get and hopefully we can get the flame going again...

Clemson should never be better than Tennessee. This is something that bothers me daily. Tee Higgins just making that catch, sickening he’s not a Volunteer. Pruitt better get this program to Clemson level. And he better do it fast.
What you gonna do if he don't? Huh?

Bama Dave Hart hired Butch.
And Tennessee Fulmer hired Bama Pruitt. I have no ax to grind against Coach Pruitt and hope he does well but why in the hell aren’t any “Tennessee” people being hired by Tennessee? Are only non-Tennessee SEC pedigrees allowed to be hired at Tennessee?

When is a Tennessee man gonna be hired? As discusssd ad nauseum why has Tee Martin never landed at Tennessee? Peyton is great but it was Tee who won the Vols a national championship. He should be at his alma mater in some capacity. Unless he is the one turning it down. And in that regard he would have to have a very defendable reason for doing so.

Lawrence is the one recruit which hurts me, because he seemed destined to be a Vol.

I believe he grew up or had family connections to Kingsport area.
He grew up a Vols fan
His favorite player is Peyton Manning
He had us in his Top 3

A few years back, when all of Knoxville was begging Manning to be a coach, one of the biggest reasons I wanted it to happen is because I think it would have gotten us Trevor Lawrence.

I remember seeing his HS recruiting tape and thinking to myself it was the best I ever saw AND it was only just after his freshman season. The guys is destined to be the next Peyton Manning and I have no doubt he will be a future #1 draft pick. I'd take that to the bank. Just hurts knowing he is a generational type of player that could turn a program around, but decided to follow a program already built by Deshaun Watson and Dabo..

Dude, you are out of your mind!!! How long have you been a VOLS fan? Yes, it has been 20 years. But, UT went 45-5 from 95-98. UT won two SEC Championships and a NC. Had UT not lost to Florida 3 of those 4 years. UT probably wins four SEC titles in 4 years and probably another NC. Florida (Spurrier) was UT's nemisis like Bama is for Clemson.

You do know that Clemson plays in the ACC. Don't you? Are they ELITE? HELL YES!!! But, let's be real. What are the chances of Clemson making 3 NC games in 4 years as a SEC team? If Clemson were in the SEC, they probably play in 1 NC game the last 4 years, maybe none. The other 3 years they lose to either UGA, Florida, LSU, Texas A & M, Auburn, or Bama and probably don't even make the SEC Championship game!!! Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, NC State, and Syracuse is not in the same league as UGA, Florida, Bama, and LSU right now and it isn't even close!!! Let Clemson be in the SEC East to play UGA, UF, and either Auburn, LSU, or Texas A & M as their locked in game vs the SEC West every year, plus Bama every year in the SEC Championship WHEN and IF THEY MAKE IT THAT FAR. Then, let's see how much better they are than what UT has EVER PUT ON THE FIELD!!!!!!!

It's not just Clemson. Earlier this year the Tennessean put out 13 of the best Nashville area high school players since 2008. Only 4 of the 13 signed with Tennessee and one of those 4 was Hurd. You have guys like Jalen Ramsey who went to FSU and on to multiple pro-bowls. Dan'ta Hightower who went to Alabama and also the pro-bowl. C.J. Beathard went to Iowa and has started 10 games in the NFL in the last two seasons. He's not great but when is the last time we had a QB start an NFL game not named Manning? Wesley Johnson went to Vandy and has started 24 games in the NFL in the last 2 seasons. This during an era when we desperately needed OL.

It's concerning when you see pro-bowl level/NFL starters signing with other teams so often over the last decade and when you see most of the top 10 prospects in the state not signing with Tennessee this year.
