And the play calling just looks so creative.

Cal vs Miami: Call just ran a double reverse, then on the next play faked the QB run, and the QB stepped back and tossed it over the defense to the RB.

Where is our creativity like that?? What the heck was that vanilla garbage we ran tonight??

We used to have this beautiful play with Hooker where he would take the snap, run a few steps to the right as though he was keeping, then drop back and launch a bomb. Even earlier this year we at least had the cool little shovel pass.

Someone help me understand.

O-line play and injuries and they don’t want to risk Nico running I don’t think. Either that or he’s hesitating.

Nico doesn't know the playbook, or Heupel just doesn't trust him to run more than the basic high school level offense that l's being called at the moment.

Option plays don't even seem to include the option of Nico running unless it's to avoid the sack.

We'll go up against better defenses than Arkansas this year, and it will be more painful to watch.

I would just think poor O-line play and injuries mean it's time to get more creative, not less.

Figure out how to get the ball out quick and take pressure off your line.

If this is true, something is very wrong. Nico has been here since January 2023, no?

What can they do though? Not sure what creative plays you can call when your O-line isn’t up to snuff. Maybe Nico should take off more often

There is PLENTY you can do when your O-line is playing bad. We just pretended it wasn't. That's so concerning.

Something not good is up when coach chooses to run on 3rd and long instead of letting Nico attempt to make a play through the air.

Correct. He had a fair amount of playing time in 2023 as a backup, and just being able to be in the program for an entire year before being asked to start in the bowl game, should have put him in a great position for this season.

Yeah. Someone that has been around the program for 22 months should know the freaking playbook and be able to execute it at a higher level than this. This is 2/3* true freshman QB crap we’re seeing out there. Not saying the light won’t come on for him, but it never did for Joe and the last play of the game was Deja vu if I’ve ever had it before with Ole Miss in 2021.

To potentially seal the game as well. Heupel coached that game scared shitless from the first whistle.
This. We played scared the entire game. The play calling was laughable, running up the middle 3 times in a row and then punt. Defense was having a hard time too. If the game plan was to just rely on them to save us like we did against Oklahoma then yikes

Our offense is super basic. No slants, reverses, sweeps, wheel routes, flea flickers. Why not run more 12 man personnel?

If you recall, Moore looked like the more complete QB in the O&W game.

Maybe by year 3 Nico will finally have enough of a grasp of the playbook that Heupel will trust him to run the offense.

We run no slants, no sweeps, no wheel routes, no reverses, no flea flickers. Our routes are extremely basic. I am beginning to think it was more Golesh than Huepel.
Thank you. Petrino respected the TN front 7. He included plays that combat that....they made it work. Had to with their QB, cause he ain't great. The OC made him look like it though.

Yeah. Ridiculous. At least throw it up for grabs in the end zone. Why run out of bounds?

Makes zero sense!
