Schaeffer was the first true freshman QB to start for an SEC team since 1945.

UNLV went up 3-0

Schaeffer was in command early. 3rd and goal, Schaeffer looks like Condredge and dances into the checkerboard. 7-3 Tennessee!

Ainge took over.

As the first quarter winded down, Ainge threw a 43 yard bomb to C.J. Fayton for a TD.

Tennessee 14-3.

Riggs scored a TD, giving the Vols a 21-3 Halftime lead.

Schaeffer wasted little time in the second half getting the Vols on the scoreboard again.

35 yard pass to Meachem from Schaeffer on a beautiful throw.

13 play 82 yard drive for Ainge after that, ending in a 3 yard pass to Tony Brown for a TD.

Tennessee up 35-10 just into the fourth quarter.

Cory Larkins ran one in from 23 yards out to cap the scoring.

Tennessee ran up 513 yards of total offense. 123 yards 7-10 passing for Schaeffer one rushing and one passing TD. 10-17 for Ainge, 2 TD's and 118 yards.

They won 42-17.

Then Florida came to town on September 18th 2004.

The largest crowd in Tennessee History. Over 109,000.

A fumble gave the ball to Florida early. Tennessee went down 7-0, then marched 80 yards. Jabari Davis scored and tied it up.

Leak was then intercepted by Jason Allen at the 20 yard line. Jason had a sack and 14 tackles.

Ainge then came in and on the 7th play of the drive he hit the TE for a TD from 17 yards out. Justin Reed from Punta Gorda Florida.

Tennessee lead 14-7. Gators then tied it up on a 9 yard pass completing a 97 yard drive. Ainge then trew an INT and Wynn scored to lead the Gators to the halftime lead of 21-14.

Kevin Burnett ended up with 16 tackles and Jesse Mahelona came up with a huge sack slowing the Gators down.

Leach then missed a 21 yard field goal in the third quarter.

The Vols led them 80 yards dowen field and on 4th and inches on the drive, the Vols went for it and picked it up.

Bret Smith then caught a great pass from 24 yards out.

Tennessee tied it 21-21.

81 Yard pass for the Gators after Brandon Johnson tipped the ball into the Gators receivers hand.

The Vols were facing 4th and 6 with 5:22 to play as Ainge complete a ball long over the middle to Tony Brown picking up a first down at the 15.

3rd and eight with 3:33 to play Jason Swain caught a pass on a crossing pattern and scored.

The extra point was kicked and missed wide-right. Wilhoit had made 50 straight up to that point.

Florida couldn't run out the clock. With 1:06 left, the Gators were called for a personal foul, allowing the Vols to get the ball back.

Ainge had :43.

Second and 10 he completed a pass down to the 40 yard line of Florida. Ainge quick snapped and complete a short pass to the 32 yard line of Florida. 16-24 192 yards and 3 TD's were Ainge's final numbers.

Wilhoit then booted the 50 yarder for the WIN!!!!

Game 3 vs. LA Tech September 25th 2004

HOMECOMING!

Ryan Moats was the leading rusher in the NCAA coming into the game.

Both teams punted on their first two possessions.

La Tech scored on a 32 yard pass to lead the game after a 97 yard drive.

Ainge came in then and Houston carried the Vols down the field on 2 plays. Houston was avering 36.5 yards per carry.

Moats then scored, leading the Bulldogs to another lead 14-7.

Ainge then topped off a drive led by Riggs on a 13 yard beautiful pass to Fayton the game 14-14.

Ainge's second td pass was a 60 yard pass to Bret Smith.

Omar Gaither then intercepted a screen pass. Houston ran in the touchdown to lead the Vols to a 28-14 halftime lead.

Ainge then threw a 4 yard TD to Bret Smith giving him 3 TD's in the game.

Ainge finished 10-15 198 yards and three TD's.

Schaeffer ended the scoring with a side-line pass to Meachem for a TD, winning 42-17.

Game 4. October 2nd vs Auburn.

Auburn scored first.

Wilhoit kicked a 41 yard FG making it 7-3.

Ainge flipped a late 4th quarter pass to Cory Anderson capping the scoring at 34-10 Auburn.

Game 5. October 9th at Georgia

Georgia was ranked 3rd in the country and beat LSU 45-16 the week before.

Touchback to start the game. 3rd and 11 Tinsley was wide open 15 yards behind the Defense and Ainge hit him. 12:01 to play first quarter and the Vols go for it on 4th and one. Ainge flipped to Anderson and picked up the first down around the UGA 15.

Ainge then hit Bret Smith in the back of the endzone to give the Vols a 7-0 lead. Pretty Pass.

3 and out for Greene and the Dawgs O.

The Vols took over on their own 30. Riggs picked up 31 yards on the drive and Wilhoit hit a FG from 35 yards out.

10-0 VOLS End of the first quarter.

Georgia scored on a 24 yard pass in the second quarter on a pass from Shockley to Gibson.

Tennessee got the ball with less than 6:00 in the half, starting at the UGA 49 yardline. Ainge hit Brown perfectly between two defenders to set up a 51 yard field goal from Wilhoit to cap the first-half scoring at Tennessee 13-7.

In the third quarter, both teams missed FG's. Then late in the quarter, Georgia fake punted, and did not make it.

Riggs carried the load on runs of 9, 2 and 14 yards on the next drive. Ainge rolled out ala Peyton Manning and lofted a pass along the sideline, allowing Hannon to catch the ball leading Tennessee to a 19-7 lead.

Tennessee missed it's third FG of the night before Georgia scored a TD cutting the lead to 19-14 on a Danny Ware 1 yard run.

Tennessee punted with 2:12 left back to the Dawgs. Greene moved the Dawgs, collecting 4 first downs. With one second left in the game Fred Gibson was tackled inside the 20 yard line.

Greene passed into the endzone and the ball was knocked away as the Vols win 19-14 breaking a four game losing streak to UGA.

Game 6. October 16th at Ole Miss

Fulmer and Cutcliffe reunited!

First time since 1988 that the Vols played in Oxford.

The game started at 9:00 on ESPN.

Riggs carried the Vols down the field before Ainge passed the ball down to Tony Brown on the 2 yard line and Jabari Davis leaped into the endzone for a score.

Tennessee led 7-0 before Brandon Johnson intercepted a pass and Dustin Colquit faked a punt hitting Chris Hannon for a first down and Riggs scored from 21 out, leading 14-0.

Then the wheels fell off. Ainge and the offense did not score again until midway into the fourth quarter. During that time, Mississippi scored 17 points to lead 17-14.

Parys Harrelson had 2 sacks and ten tackels on the night. Brandon Johnson had two interceptions.

Ainge needed to answer and did on a 39 yard bomb to Meachem that was called back for him stepping out of bounds, but 2 plays later Bret Smith layed out catching a 30 yard TD pass, ending the scoring at 21-17 in favor of Tennessee.

Game 7 October 23rd vs. Alabama

Tennessee was ranked 11th coming in.

The 87th meeting.

Tennessee kicked off for a Touchback.

Alabama fumbled on the second play after McBride deflected it and Parys Harrelson scooped it up and ran it in.

:45 into the game the Vols led 7-0.

Alabama intercepted the ball from Ainge on the second possession and Tim Castille scored from 2 out to tie the game.

Bostic then kicked a FG and Alabama led 10-7.

Tinsley then made a big return down to the 29 yardline. Ainge and Swain then connected on 2 plays of 10 and 19, taking the Vols to the checkerboards. Tennessee led 14-10 with 6:40 left in the first half.

The Vol offense came out firing. A 39 yard bomb to Swain set up a 40 yard FG streatching the lead to 17-10.

Bostic cut the lead to 4 with a 47 yarder and with 6:26 left. Alabama got the ball back, but Burnett tackled the Alabama RB 3 yards deep and then Omar Gaither did the same. 4th and 6 for Bama with 1:53 to play saw the Vols hold, only to see a late hit call extend the drive. Alabama lost three yards on the first play though. Then Corey Campbell intercepted the ball on the Tennessee 15 yardline, his second of the year with :46 remaining.

The Vols won 17-13. Tennessee was 6-1, 4-1 in the SEC.

Fulmer's 10th win against Alabama.

Game 8 Tennessee at South Carolina October 30th 2004

Tennessee still ranked 11th.

The Cocks were trying to become bowl eligible.

The Vols started out slow, falling behind 8-0.

With 2:58 left in the first half, Schaeffer sparked the Vols, leading them down the field so that Ainge could dump a pass off to David Holbert for his first TD.

The Vols were down 8-6 and went for 2. Scheffer walked into the endzone with :30 seconds left to tie the game at the half.

Houston broke one of the first plays of the second half for a long run, and then Ainge came in and hit Hannon in stride to give the Vols a 15-8 lead. The Vols never looked back.

The next offensive series ended Schaeffer's regular season as he suffered a broken clavical.

Ainge hit Chris Brown for his first TD and Tennessee led 22-8.

Houston then led the Vols downfield again, this time breaking another long run of 65 yards taking the Vols to the 3 yardline. He then scored from one yard out and ended the game with 190 yards on 15 carries. The Vols led 29-8.

Gaither intercepted the ball in the 4th and Yancy scored his first TD as a Vol on a 23 yard run. Tennessee led 35-15.

South Carolina scored twice more and on an onside kick, Bret Smith scored a Touchdown as he scooped the ball out of the air and ran the final score in.

Tennessee won 43-29.

Game 9. vs. Notre Dame November 6th 2004

Tennesse's 8th straight game. O-Line was banged up and Schaeffer was down for 5 weeks.

Tennessee scored first on a 30 yard FG.

Second quarter, Ainge hit Houston on a screen and Houston had a beautiful run. Tennessee led 10-7.

Then, Ainge suffered his dislocated shoulder.

Clausen came in 120 yards and 10-18 on the game, but a FG was all the Vols could score in the second half and the Irish won 17-13.

Game 10. at Vanderbilt. November 20th 2004

The Vols had two weeks to prepare/rest.

Houston was the man, scoring the first three TD's of the day for the Vols with 12:25 left in the first half.

Tennesse was up 21-6. Clausen then threw a bullet pass to Swain for a 21 yard touchdown for the 28-6 lead.

Vandy then scored twice before the half and the lead was almost gone. 28-20.

Wilhoit hit a 34 yard FG in the third quarter, and then later Clausen hit Swain again in the back of the endzone with 4:44 to play in the third quarter. Tennessee led 38-20.

Vandy then scored twice more with the final score being 38-33.

The win clinched the East for the Vols and a rematch with Auburn. But the Vols had one game left....

Game 11 vs. Kentucky November 27th 2004

Senior Day! 17 Seniors.

Kentucky led 3-0.

Clausen then led the Vols down the field and with 6:57 left in the quarter, Clausen scored from one yard out. to lead 7-3.

Near the end of the quarter Boyd tossed a 20 yard pass for a TD and then Clausen was pressured and thew an INT returned for a TD and the Vols were down 17-7.

Cory Anderson then scored from 22 out with 7:56 left in the half to cut the lead 17-13 after a blocked extra point. Wilhoit then kicked a 24 yard FG and the Vols trailed 24-16 after a Kentucky TD.

With :20 left in the half though Clausen threw a 33 yard bomb down to the 20 yard line and with :11 to play Clausen hit Meachem in stride over the middle to pull the Vols closer at 24-22.

The end of the second half saw another block of Wilhoit and then with 3:34 remaining in the third quarter, Kentucky took the lead back on a short TD run 31-22.

With 10:55 remaining in the game, down 9 Fulmer and company called a bubble screen WR pass using CJ Fayton to Meachem who caught the ball and ran it down to the 12. 2 plays later Tony Brown scored on Senior Day, pulling the Vols closer, 31-29.

With 8:40 to play, Karlton Neal sacked Boyd forcing a punt. But the Offense sputtered and the Defense had to stop them again. Tennessee got the ball back and with :39 left Gerald Riggs scored on a TD run of 12 yards.

Tennessee took the lead and won 37-31 after going for two and getting it.

Tennessee was 9-2 and 7-1 in the SEC.

Tennessee won the SEC East for the 4th time in 8 years.
