Saw a guy I didn't know at the Opry last night, name of Josh Thompson. He talked and sounded just like the people I grew up with. This song kinda sums up the philosophy I grew up with. I just thought ya'll may appreciate the sentiment. At least, those of you that ain't dirty rotten libs will. :p

Way Out Here

Our houses are protected by the good Lord and a gun
And you might meet 'em both if you show up here not welcome son
Our necks are burnt, our roads are dirt and our trucks ain't clean
The dogs run lose, we smoke, we chew and fry everything
Out here, way out here

(Chorus)
We won't take a dime if we ain't earned it
When it comes to weight brother we pull our own
If it's our backwoods way of livin' you're concerned with
You can leave us alone
We're about John Wayne, Johnny Cash and John Deere
Way out here

We got a fightin' side a mile wide but we pray for peace
'Cause it's mostly us that end up servin' overseas
If it was up to me I'd love to see this country run
Like it used to be, oughta be, just like it's done
Out here, way out here

(Chorus)
We won't take a dime if we ain't earned it
When it comes to weight brother we pull our own
If it's our backwoods way of livin' you're concerned with
You can leave us alone
We're about John Wayne, Johnny Cash and John Deere

Charlie Daniels, an Opry regular, once said; "Obama and some democrats are either fools or traitors."

Great lyrics, I'd love to hear the song, that's how I was raised also.

Have you ever heard of Pam Foster?

In the early part of the last century, blues and country were interwoven and almost inseperable and musitians would pass the hat for playing.

When some came down from up north and began recording and selling records and booking bands for big money (at least to them at that time), they mandated that whites only could play and record 'hillbilly' music and blacks only could play and record blues music.

Pam wrote a well documented book on blacks in country music that is well worth reading.

One of the funnier things was when Cowboy Clements recorded Charlie Pride and sold the album to a big music company along with an artist contract package and had the money before they knew Charlie was a black man.

Since a good bit of money had already changed hands and contracts had been signed the company couldn't back out but now you won't get any kind of deal like that without having a showcase where they see the artist before hand.

Pride has a son with a great voice that plays country but I doubt he will ever get a shot at the big time because there are those who want to try to maintain stereotypes at all cost for some reason or another.

Probably because, as you say, they are dirty stinking libs.

I would actually like to see welfare recipients by the county. I have a feeling a lot more of them country folks are living off the teet than we like to make known. I know unemployment is higher in most states in the SE than the NE.
