I'm waiting for LG to tell us that we actually support Phelps, I mean, he's figured out that we're all racists and stuff...

hooray for killing people whose speech we don't agree with. They are a joke and mean nothing. If there is a hell they will surely end up there so isn't that good enough?

Unfortunately, it is a first amendment right for them to protest.

Shame though. People like the WBC and that organization of loonies and driveling morons are nothing more than common pieces of ****.

You dont take the thread title as being a literal statement do you? While I dont agree with killing someone because they are exercising their freedom of speech, I wouldnt be saddened if something horrible were to happen to this man and his mindless sheep.

sadly the press they get about this encourages them to do this more often.

I don't appreciate them hiding behind being called a "Baptist Church". They're no more Baptist than Jim Jones or any other looney "fringe" nutbags....They're doing it because they know they can, but if they had any "Christianity" in them, they'd know where they're headed. The Lord doesn't allow people like these groups to go unpunished in the end...........Commish

you mentioned it twice so I figured you were ok with or advocating it. These people aren't even close to the funerals when they protest. I think people are more pissed off because they identify their group as Christian

That coupled with the fact that they are choosing to protest at fallen soldiers funerals.

1) I attended the funeral of a friend that was picketed and you'd only notice their presence if you looked for it. 2) I couldn't disagree with their message or their motives more... but they have a right to say whatever it is they want to say.

Not debating this

They do have the right but who with any sense, other than craving media attention, would violate such a private and sacred act of a family's burial of a loved one???? Especially when that one being buried, died to give them the right to do what they're doing. I don't get these people..........Commish

If people paid them no mind, they'd go away. The more you itch that poison ivy.. the worse it gets.

yet you asked the question

Maybe out of my anger over this issue, I may have ignored the free speech rights of Phelps and his organization. I just think there are certain things that should be taken as a sacred and respected thing, and the funeral of a fallen soldier should be one of them.

They're not literally right on top of the funeral. They were, by my guess and memory, about 150-200 yards away.

Just to throw it out there; who believes that if it were, say, Klansmen demonstrating at some black statesman's funeral they might not be arrested for "inciting" or some such thing?

It depends. I think WBC actually gets permits to protest. Otherwise, I think those guys would be arrested for disturbing the peace or something like that.

Are you saying you think these protesters are being given preferential treatment? Ya, the vast left wing conspiracy is tolerating all the blatant anti-homosexual hate speech because they want to stick it to the soldiers, and the vast right wing conspiracy is willing to put up with the shenanigans as long as they keep preaching the word of God about "****."

Sorry, I don't see it. I see a church of 15 adults, that has 11 successful 1st amendment lawyers and know how to protect their constitutional rights. Sucks for us.

I wouldn't say "preferential" so much as I think there'd be a good bit more outrage, particularly in the media, if the characters in the play got shuffled a bit. Otherwise yeah, if no laws are actually being broken, you deal with it.
