WBCA Coaches Poll

The Lady Vols were picked 4th in the WBCA Coaches Preseason poll. They actually received one 1st place vote.

Top 3 were UConn, Duke and Stanford. The SEC has 6 teams in the top 25, with Vandy at 26 and Florida having received 1 vote.

If the top 8 teams finish in that order and make the Regional Finals, I guess we could see Connecticut vs. Kentucky in Lincoln, Neb., Duke vs. Notre Dame in South Bend, Stanford vs. Maryland in Palo Alto, and Tennessee vs. Louisville in Louisville???

Doubtful, because ND and Duke are both in the ACC now, so it will be unlikely they are the top 2 seeds in the same regional. Since UConn would be a #1, and ND a #2, UConn would likely go there, since they are no longer in the same conference, and aren't playing in the regular season this year. ESPN wants this game, and will use the tournament to get it. Duke would likely go to Louisville since it would be closer to Durham and Lincoln is. Tennessee would be in Lincoln against Maryland, and Stanford would be against Kentucky, because they are hosting and KY/TN being in the same conference.

That would change if ND ends up being a #1 seed. UConn would likely go to Lincoln at that point, since Louisville is in the same conference as UConn. If the #1s are UConn, Duke, ND, & Tennessee, it would look something like:

UConn/Kentucky (Lincoln)
ND/ ? (South Bend)
Duke/Louisville (Louisville)
Tennessee/Stanford (Palo Alto)

In a situation like this, I can see them dropping Tennessee to a #2 and send them to South Bend, and bump Stanford to a #1 and send Maryland to Palo Alto. This would avoid conference matchups in the Regional Final.

My response was just hypothetical too.

And albeit probably unappealing, conference sisters can collide in regional championships. Just last year Stanford and California were 1 and 2 in the Spokane Regional. Stanford just didn't make it that far.
