I'm neither a negavol or sunshine pumper. I try to be analytical and realistic about my takes. Prior to this weekends drubbing of LSU and AL struggling with TA&M, I would gave said "next year". However, in light if the mounting evidence, I think it's completely realistic that we beat them this year.
What we've got going for us:
Home game.
Team is hot.
Defense showing up more consistantly.
Relatively injury free (Tillman likely back this weekend).
Team completely buying into the coach.
Special teams playing lights out.
FG kicker that is pretty clutch.

If ever there was a time in the last 15 years to beat them, this is it. Alabama is still Alabama. But almost every year they seem to inexplicably drop a game. This might just be our year

Well yea

If Texas should have

If A&M was 1 play from doing it

Then Tennessee CERTAINLY can beat Bama……..NO doubt about it.

Not saying it will happen, however for certain they could and maybe should…….I think Tennessee wins.

For me (and I’m wrong all the time) I think this depends mostly on how well Tennessee plays………”not” how well or how bad Bama plays……..simply does Tennessee play up to their capability? Or do they play “off” and have multiple costly mistakes?

In the past you think……if Bama has a bad game or does this or that……and Tennessee has a good game…….not this year (I personally don’t think)…….it just comes down to Tennessee.

It’s going to be incredibly tough. Like hard as hell. But we might just be man enough….finally.

Defense will have to have the game of it's life, but after Saturday, I like the improvement I've seen. Slow them down just enough for Hooker & Company to do their thing.

I'll go further, if we beat Bama then I also think we beat UGA. If this team doesn't commit lots of turnovers then we have the advantage in my opinion. Defense is getting better and hard to stop this offense. Play calling was very good against LSU.

Where do you think Tennessee will be ranked if they hold off Alabama 37-35? I think if Tennessee beats Alabama they will be ranked #3 or #4.

Yes, we are capable. More so if Bryce Young cannot play. I still think this is a 10-2 team. I think Bama and UGA are still simply too talented and deep for this roster. But we have closed the gap significantly. And yes, there's a chance we drop one that we
"should" win, and end up 9-3. Or 8-4. Stranger things have happened. There's a lot of football yet to be played.

All that being said, I simply have to do this for the sheer fun of it...

Nightmare scenario: UT beats Bama in Knoxville...UGA beats UT in Athens...UGA at 12-0 wins the East; Bama at 11-1 wins the West. Bama beats UGA in the SECCG. So, Bama's in the CFP at 12-1 and the SEC Champ...UGA gets in as the #3 seed at 12-1...and UT gets a NY6 bowl at 11-1. Having beaten the team that won the SEC.

Won't happen...but could.

I'll hang up and listen.

Go Vols.

I agree i think Tennessee gets a big lead on Alabama and holds them off winning 37-35.

If we beat Bama there is no way we don’t jump to #3. Right now Bama is #3. #5 Clemson plays unranked FSU. #4 Michigan plays #10 PSU. While UM beating PS would be big for UM. There is no way that win is bigger than us beating Bama.

3rd minimum

Easy argument for 1st or 2nd.

If Bama wins I bet they would go back to 1st. They would only be moving 2 spots. For Tennessee they would have to move 5……..that’s a lot of movement up there at the top.

Tennessee would have beaten 4 ranked teams (2 while on the road) and have the best win of the season so far (by anyone - currently Georgia over Oregon)………that should be a #1 resume. Only problem is where Tennessee started…….outside the top 25.

The #2 argument is Ohio State is off this week. With a Tennessee win over the #3 team Tennessee would then have the same record as Ohio State (currently played one fewer game), but with a much better resume.

I would suspect 3rd unless we see Georgia and Clemson struggle. I say that even though I believe Tennessee would surpass Clemson, because I think it would help with the logic of the large 5 spot move………#2 DNP, #3 lost, #1 & #4 both struggled may as well move #6 since they beat #3.

A lot of people are going to be rooting for us across the nation. I've already read so much to suggest that. Just got through reading a bunch of comments from LSU fans saying they'll be rooting for us to beat Bama. I've seen a lot of people reacting to our games and people in the comments saying that we look like a playoff team. Seems like a lot of people outside of our fans believe in us more than we do at times.

I've been trying to temper my expectations for this season, but I really want to win this game and the Georgia game and just shock the SEC. I don't think either of them have looked unbeatable this season so far. It's doable.

So let's go Vols! WGWTFA!

There is still a talent gap between us and AL and GA. The depth on the bench just can't be ignored. If Alabama comes out hitting on all 8 cylinders, we can't beat them......yet. If they have a game like they did against A&M, and we are hitting on all 8 cylinders, we beat them. I Think GA is a bigger hill to climb still. If we beat Bama, Then our team walks into a game with GA with a mindset of "giant killers", we can beat GA.
