what you didn't see on tv was when he came out and before the quote said "we don't deserve this...we've done nothing to deserve this" and a guy yelled "yes you do!" and the crowd went nuts.

We got there at 3, and my friends had been there since 12:30. By 4 or 4 30 it was crazy. Mob mentality set in and we just started cheering or booing at stuff without even seeing what we were yelling at.

When the doors opened at 5:30, it was pretty scary. There was a huge push, and we were just trying to do everything possible to not fall down at get trampled. For that first while I was actually kind of scared I wouldn't keep my feet..i'm not sure how they thought pushing and shoving to the door would get us in faster. Finally got in, after waiting for 2 1/2, 3 hours only to find that the Orange Nation had gotten people to paint their chests and gave them the front row seats that we'd been waiting all day to get.

This brought some tense moments between us and them, because last I checked the student section was teh "Rocky Top Rowdies" NOT the "Rocky Top Rowdies everywhere except the good seats even though they waited out in the rain" and the Orange Nation did not"

We got that cleared up with marketing, and were assured it would not happen again. Because me and the group I go with have missed ONE homegame all season, and that was an exhibition over christmas break when we were out of town.

We've been there when there were no expectations, and we're still here now that we are winning. Where was the Orange Nation? Where were the rest of the students??? We just felt it was a disservice to LOYAL vol fans that show up day in and day out, win or lose. I haven't missed watching a game all year, minus the one exhibition.

Yesterday got me mad about the Orange Nation, because they don't show up for anything but Football, and men's and women's basketball. And realistically, they only show up for the first two. Where is this student pep organization at baseball, volleyball, soccer, softball??? Oh wait, they don't come...I goto a lot of baseball, and went to all the home volleyballs, and you know how many other students were at volleyball? About 15 that gave a damn. Baseball has a following, but usually only for the "big" games. A lot of people treat it like a social event and couldn't care less win or lose.

Last year, when there were seats where we now stand, the student section would be full, except for up front where only Orange Nation sat. They'd come get their pizza and free tshirts before a game and then LEAVE!!!

But anyhow, I digress. THe game was electric, and when we won, rushing the court was a blast, except for that moment of fear that I was going ot be trampled on.

I just want everyone to keep coming and supporting the vols, and not showing up for jsut the free tuition, or a chance at rushing the court or something.

Show up and support the teams, regardless. If you're just showing up to get front row seats without waiting, or to get soem pizza or a tshirt, stay at home.

Last night was amazing, but I just wish we weren't showing off for tv by staging stuff like painted students, making it look like it was all their idea. We don't need publicity stunts like that. We need students and fans there that are prepared to get rowdy as hell. I'll be there, and so will my friends even if we lose the next 10 games. Where will everyone else be?

That's understandable. What isn't is that kids walk from their dorm, get their free sweatshirts, and take an about face. The majority of the student body really exemplifies "Fair Weather Fan"

Well to be honest, can you really blame them? I was at UT in the early 80's during the Devoe years and even though we were competitive, it wasn't difficult to get tickets. And that was at Stokely. I will tell you that if I'd have been a student the last few years, it would have been difficult to get excited about the product Buzz put on the court, highlighted by poor coaching, excuses, and a general lack of effort by the players, all the result of a head coach who was in way over his head.

I think you will see with each and every game this season, that the student's will slowly return, and I'm not talking for just one game, but continuing to come game after game. This team and coach are a 180 degree swing from where we've been the last 4 years. Lets give the students the benefit of the doubt and while fair weather is a fair statement, there are only a few diehards who never lost hope.

I'm at UK and have probably been to more games at TBA the last couple of years than most UT students. :eek:lol: I just hope that some UT students will use the SEC tournament tickets that are allotted to them. Last year in Atlanta, UT was the only school out of 12 to not have a student section. Last night was great though. I'm sure they'll keep coming back.

Last night was great!!! I've never had to wait to get in or out of a bball game, but last night was amazing. Whenever I go to a game I ride with my uncle. He has had season tickets for 44 years now, and he can't remember a season as exciting as this one. As far as all the support goes.

I don't see why you're so angry at "most of the student body" there Jwells... I've made 4-6 home games a season while I've been at UT (4 years), how is that being "Fair Weather" ??? I mean, as bad as they were at times... I can understand being pissed at the "Orange Nation", those fools can all jump off a cliff if you ask me... but if you're going to be angry at "Fairweather Fans" include those that aren't students, that finally showed up last night... When I got into the arena in the upper deck I looked around... student seats full... no one else there yet. I thought WTF??!?! They would have been there early for a football game... they finally showed up right at tipoff...

The other fans are kindof irritating also, but they have to pay to come see the game, we can go see it for free and a lot of them choose not to. I guess what really gets to me is when people are like "oh, i'm just going because it's sold out, or i'm just going because of the free tuition thing, i'm just going so that I can be on TV" that stuff really gets to me, and I hear it all the time on campus. When you've got a 25,000 student body, and until the last 2 games struggled to get 1500 to show up at a game, there's an issue.

I agree with you about not showing up until tipoff. It's like a lot of them show up late, and leave early. They'd rather "beat traffic" rather than cheer on the team's victory. Well, when all the old people are leaving early, you're not exactly beating anything. Even with 24000 there last night, traffic wasn't horrible. We chilled for about 15-20 min after leaving the arena, then it only took about 10 to get down to kingston pike to go eat.

But even at having 4000 at the game from the students, there's 21000 more that don't care to come. It's like, all you have to do is show up..don't have to go get a ticket, just show up. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm glad they're there, I just wish they'd show the same support even when we're down. And I hope that next year, even if we drop a little bit trying to get freshmen up to par, that people still come out.

you all seriously need to get off orange nations nuts. i am in orange nation and no i was not one of those with a painted chest, however if you are such a die hard fan, pay your money early and become a member. it is not like it is a hard organization to get into. come on guys i understnad that there are many people in it that have no business being there, but if the props that they get are so appealing to you, join the freakin group and stop cryin about it!

No it didnt. By saying that, I mean that there are some people that pay to join orange nation that could not care less about UT Sports. They either join because their boyfriend did or they want the t-shirts and stuff like that. However, the people that had their chests painted WANTED to be there. I know this because there was an email sent out to ALL orange nation members asking if anyone would be interested in doing something like that and they got the replies to set that up. There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with those people getting those front row seats. The people that have a problem with it, since you are such die-hard fans, pay that small fee and get in the organization and you can have all the front row seats you want to ANY sporting event. After all, that is what Orange Nation was designed for, its just that the so called "diehard" fans don't join it and then all they do is cry aobut the people that did...
