We do terrible against mobile QBs

Can we not contain a mobile QB? You would think after playing Oregon, Florida, and now SA that we would try to have a game plan on defense for this. Our talent level should be better than SA but we make 2nd string talent look like starters.

We do terrible against any team that has a decent offense. We're used to practicing against our inept offense then when confronted by a good offense we look bad. AJ has really hurts us a lot against routes that come through his zone. Our defensive backs continue to look inept but in their defense they do come up with a few big plays now and then. The most disappointment for me is our running game. We should be able to lean on lesser teams, especially late in games, and grind them down and run it down their throats. So far this year we have been sporadic at best.

i hate to say this, but i didn't think the qb for south alabama was all that mobile

This. When he outran all of our Linebackers it was pathetic. Honestly we've had the same problems on D for 7 years now. It all relates to speed. Butch has to recruit speed on D. it is absolutely what has been killing us year in and year out. We've had different players the past 7 years but they all play the same! SLOW

Dooley didn't recruit speed on defense at all. It's obvious. Last year and this year are the slowest defenses I have ever seen at UT.

In his last 2 years... Dooley just didn't recruit any defense. Look at the numbers. They're awful.

2012 yielded 1 LB and 1 DB.

But we're Young and still learning to crawl, give the Vols a break, we'll learn to walk eventually....I think

I was talking with my buddy in the stands today about their QB. Man I wish we had that kid running our offense, he's got talent. Everything about him reminds me of Johnny Football.

It's very hard to stop an athletic, mobile QB--that's ALWAYS been true. We lost to Kentucky back in the 70s when they had a big, mobile QB--not much of a pass--and he ran QB sweeps whenever they needed a first-down. Couldn't stop him. His name might have been Ramsey. Why do you think florida won two titles with Tebow? Why did Manzeil win the Heisman and beat bama? Why do you think this game got close--we'd play well defensively on first and second down in the third quarter, and then on 3rd and 10 the south bama QB would take off and run for a first down. If your QB cannot run, you are at a disadvantage.
