We should have just hired Smart in that case. At least he has SEC experience.

Butch Jones has only been successful because he has been Brian Kelly's predecessor at both stops. He's been winning with Kelly's recruits and using the same system as Kelly is entire career.

No, we just hired a coach who has been a HC for a number of years.

I thought Kelly was winning with Dantonio's recruits? You guys want to make up you mind on who was winning with whose recruits?

I would let if pass if he had only succeeded Kelly at Cincy I'd accept it. But at both stops he's been Kelly's replacement and won with his recruits.

So he won with Kelly's "recruits" at Central Michigan? The same Big Ten sloppy second recruits that all MAC schools fight over? You realize all MAC schools finish in the bottom 20 in terms of recruiting rankings each year, and Kelly's were never great. Tony Pike wasn't even rated, for example, Marty Giliard was homeless before going to UC, and neither of those guys were with Jones when he got to UC-UC graduated a ton of players off that 12-1 team, so what exactly were they winning with?

Maybe it was good coaching.

I'm late to the party and just read the news. Wow. This is the most underwhelming news I have every received. UT has now screwed to pouch three times. Kiffin, Dooley, and Jones. Is there a difference between the three (except Kiffin can't hide his personality defects) when it comes to career accomplishments? There must be a lot of fear of taking this job in the minds of the top tier coaches. Great money, fan suport, facilities, etc. and they still will not take it. Maybe we're being cheap?

Regardless, welcome aboard Butch Jones. I hope you prove me wrong and rebuild us into a championship team.

Seriously? Kiffin and Dooley were both statistically losers coming in. Jones has a 50-27 record with 1 losing season. This hire may not be the big fish we wanted, and is still a little disappointing, but it's light years better than the last two we've made.

There is a bridge somewhere that is missing its troll.

It is NOT Jones' fault the the coaching search was bungled, and that UT fans wanted Gruden or to just shut down the program. He is the coach. He will be judged NOT on his resume, but on the results he gets on the Hill.
No comparison to Dooley.

Uh.

Jones had better records when he left than when he started. His first season at each school were very average. Then once he implemented his system, he had above average results.

Please stop spouting off rhetoric you read on the internet and do some actual research for yourself.
