We Expect To Compete For Titles Here

Because it would go over great if he said. "We're shooting for 7 wins annually, more is a bonus".

Give me a break.

They all say something like this. He's just trying to keep everyone enthused and give the recruits something to think about. You're surprised? Whats he supposed to say, "we expect to be around .500 every year"? Yeah, that sounds exciting. Lets bash the guy now for giving it all he's got to get players and people interested for once.

I certainly don't blame him for saying it.

Honest question. How long do you guys think it would take a great coach to win an SEC or national title there? It sounds ridiculous, but I'd have to think they may eventually be able to do it given a great coach who was willing to stay long enough. Just a hypothetical question, though. I don't expect many great coaches to accept the Kentucky job and then stay long term.

I believe they have one outright conference title, which:
a) came under, in my opinion the best coach in college sports history
b) only happened because Tennessee played one less conference game

It would take a very long time. it would be hard for them to catch up with the rest of the east because of a lack of history and talent in state, along with some of the worst facilities in thd SEC

True, they would likely have to upgrade them to attract any of the higher caliber recruits. I would think it would be possible, but it would take a long time. The biggest problem is I don't see a coach really wanting to stay there that long (unless it's an alum like Philips).

Nor do I. I would be looking for a new coach if he set his aim too low.

Kentucky's primary issue, as always, is recruiting the speed and talent throughout the entire team to be able to compete in the SEC. You can only "develop" so many 2 star guys into 4 star guys.

8 years ago, the program was horrible- 2-9, 2-9, 3-8. They hired a football AD and are making steady progress. In terms of facilities, we are behind because we were not proactive in funding football under prior ADs, who only paid lipservice to football because it funded basketball.

Hiring that hot coach has not worked for us in the past- Curci went 10-1 but got us on probation, and Curry just never did any better than 6-6. I think that we're on the right track, but it is a multi-year process to the kind of success that Joker is referring to.

Last year, we beat one of the teams that went to the SECCG, and came within a last-second fieldgoal of beating the eventual national champion. I'm patient, as long as we see progress beyond 7-6 and the Music City Bowl.

I certainly don't blame him for saying it.

how long until almost beating someone doesn't count? you sound like a cal fan btw and that isn't a compliment.

I don't see anything wrong with Joker saying that. Any school in a power conference should have the same attitude, which is to EXPECT to win titles.

However, I expect to win the lottery any day now.
