9. Tennessee (-2)

It was another solid season for Tennessee under Josh Heupel, finishing 10-3. Although it was a bit of a dud with a 42-17 loss to Ohio State in the first round of the College Football Playoff.
Nico Iamaleava is back next season so this team should be in SEC contention and make another run at the playoff. But they’ll be thinking about what might have been with a one-and-done appearance this year.

Could argue for #7. I think we beat Boise and Arizona state. AS usual, TN got screwed by having to play the best team in the country(At their home and terrible weather) in the first round PO.
Could also argue we have no business being in the top 10, getting man handled like we did by UGA and OSU, and losing to .500 Arkansas

You could only really think that if you also think that Arizona State and Boise would have done better than we did against our schedule. That's the reason we should be ranked ahead of them, IMO, because I don't happen to believe that.

When I think about the sh## show that the Vols were in for the past 15-20 years, it makes me so happy that we are relevant again. Go Vols!
Amen, brother! A Top 10 finish, 10 wins, made the playoffs, beat Bama and Florida, went on the road to Norman and gave Oklahoma a loss at night in their first-ever SEC game.

A LOT of other schools' fans would trade places with us in a heartbeat.

My prediction at the beginning of the season was between 8-5 and 9-4 citing the unknowns of Nico, the OL, and issues in the secondary with an AP final rank of around 15 to 20.
Final results of 10-3 with a final AP slot of 9th exceed my expectations.

Great year in my book for our beloved VOLS !!!

Also, before anyone throws shade, when is the last time UT finished in the AP Top Ten with 10 wins, outside of Josh Heupel's tenure?...
2007 was the last squad to finish with 10 wins, BUT they fell to 12th in the final AP poll.
Fulmer also fielded 10 win teams in 2003 and 2004, but finished 15th and 13th respectively.
To get to the last UT team with 10 wins and a Top Ten Final ranking, you have to go back to the 2001 team that finished 11-2 at number 4 in the polls.
Folks, that's almost 25 years in the making - puts the amazing things CJH has done in perspective for sure.

Both won Conference Championships so I assume that is why?

But they were already conference champions as of the last AP poll. I can understand Arizona State moving up for playing a great game against Texas, I suppose, but absolutely nothing about Boise State's performance against Penn State should have vaulted them over Tennessee.

Some fans think we had a bad year.
"Perspective" is a word that comes to mind.

I get wanting more. I think we all want more. But only one team gets to look back at the end of the season and feel that level of satisfaction. Only a handful of teams were good enough to even be in the conversation -- and we were one of them.
