Interesting little tidbit from Jake's post...and Dooley was number 9 on our list of coaches. I'd be interested to know the 8 that turned us down...and what awesome jobs they took. I know we've been down recently but we have light years more potential than Maryland in football!

If true, I'd say it's due to the fear of coaching in the SEC. Look how many coaches have just been fired. It's not an easy place to coach.

probably doesnt want to coach in the SEC. He can survive at MD with 1-3 teams in top 25. while the SEC usually have 7-8. Afraid of competition. MD is a basketball school, not as much pressure.

I THINK it was from fear of the management.

The context of this information was in a discussion i was in about how dysfunctional the Athletic Department was/is.

And I'll risk the source identity by saying it came from a friend of mine that works for Pilot (corporate).

So the AD being screwed up can be traced back to Kiffin Jake? It's no wonder our program has had hard times--now I guess since they know that football drives the train it will get easier to get a winner here!

I can't claim to know all about the events in succession going that far back, only that I was engaged in conversation with an old friend of mine that works for Haslam in the corporate sector.

But does anyone really need to mention the name Hamilton to know there was dysfunction at that time?

And I'm a little gun shy right now due to being called out on this exact content for having misleading information about the events after Edsall blew the meeting off.

Before this thread takes off in two directions, please note that I was mistaken (and proven otherwise) about the events of Edsall's hiring to Maryland...after he blew us off.

Edsall is from York and a hometown hero, but he isn't having much success at Maryland and may be back coaching high school soon. He was a hot rock in 2010, not sure he would have done any better than Dooley.

The tenure of the average D-1 coach is about 4 years. I doubt Dooley would last much longer in any other conference.

These coaches know what the SEC is all about thats why they turned it down thats why we got to have big name to compete or we will always be a 6 and 6 or 7 and 5 team going to bowls in Nashville.:eek:hmy:
