I absolutely love the defensive mindset of this team. It's even more impressive that he has gotten a team of someone else's players to buy in this much. No one on our team was exactly known for their defensive intensity before. To be able to instill that in one offseason says a lot for his coaching ability.
Pearl won with Buzz's players. So, he got them to buy in to what he was selling. Pearl actually recognized the strength's of each player and had each player reach their potential and put them in a position to succeed.
So, these players buying what Martin is selling has been seen with Pearl/Peterson coaching change.
Now, we need to win the games that we are supposed to win. Austin Peay, Georgia, Memphis, etc. and then we will be in good shape.
Could we all just sit for a moment and think of how this team would have been with Tobais, Scotty and Stokes, this entire season? Wow!!! Definately a tourney team.
Confident to say we would have already beaten UGA, Austin Peay, Charleston, Memphis, Miss St. Kentucky and Duke this season. Those three would have given us the extra umph that we needed to score the extra points or get the extra defensive stop to win those close games. We would have 16 wins already this season.
I know Scotty was a head case, but I firmly believe that
Martin would have tamed him and we would have seen a better player this season.
If those guys are here we don't have a scholarship for stokes right now so that scenario is impossible. I also don't think Hopson would he worked here under ccm, look at McRae it just isn't clicking I don't guess. Tobias would have excelled under ccm though I believe.
I have very little doubt that Coach Martin can get us to where Coach Pearl had us. Top 25 team, consistent tourney team, and 20 wins a year. I think most people would be happy with that, as would I.
The question is: Can he elevate the program to elite?
