It bugs the hell out of me that we can't grasp basketball skills that you learn playing church league in 2nd grade. You box out, you get into help side and you dont LEAVE YOUR FEET to block a shot. So many times we're out of position for a rebound because we jump into the opposing team's bench trying to swat a shot or get dunked on by a drive off a pump fake.

I always teach my kids to keep your butt to the basket and always keep the ball and your man in sight-watch Duke or Carolina play D

shhhhh....

the majority of VN posters want to believe that the sole problem of our team is hustle and effort. they will tell you it has nothing to do with fundamentals.

i'd like to see defensive guru steve forbes introduce the idea of ball-you-man defense to this group and see how that revelation would change their performance. a couple of players already grasp the concept - would be nice if they all did.

It bugs me that our defense has trouble on simple screen plays.

it's because they're clueless about what to do.

every time someone sets a screen on them, it's like looking at a menu in Russian for the first time.

"Hey! What's this? How am I supposed to...oh, I'll just figure it out."

I think they need to stop switching off the picks. It's a lazy way of playing. Stop going below the screens and fight thru them. My son hit three 3's the other night in elementery game because of what he learned in the Gonzaga game. His defender would drop below the picker every time. As much as I love to watch us run the floor, you have to know that someone is going to get a wide open look every time we are on defense.

I just don't understand how they're clueless. They've been playing organized basketball their whole lives (except B Will)...you would think at some point a coach would teach them a way to counter those ball screens.

yeah i've noticed that they have been switching on ball screens, which is okay, but they just don't do it the correct way. Both players either end up guarding the ball handler or they switch when it's too late.

I will quit posting if you find any it player who Forst know how to defend a screen or your now trite ball-you-man stuff. Do you really think our big men aren't being taught the senseless hard switching they do?
