Its only the beginning of December and we are already running out of scholarships and talking about which guys to greyshirt and which players we'll have to tell to look around before we run out of spots..

It may be time to slow down, take some deep breathes, and maybe even change our position a little bit and see what happens the next couple months with other coaching firings and hirings and maybe save these last few spots for some upgrades..

This goes back to the point of giving out offers too early that shouldn't have been committable right way (Thomas, DY, and Carson come to mind).

Save a little bit for the home stretch... don't want to finish up too fast and not have a spot for that good one at the very end.

What is it with everyone wanting to throw DY into this discussion. If he pans out, he fills one of our greatest needs. What we need to be thinking about is how were going to beat UNC. JMO

I have been wondering this too. Why IS everyone hating on DY?

I think this staff is better at managing offers and scholarships than any of us are. Let them do their thing. They obviously know who to pursue and who we have a good shot at getting.

i think no one's opinion on who the staff should keep matters, they are going to offer and keep whoever they believe will do the best...they get paid to do these things so just sit back and be happy with who we get, i am sure Dooley is more than capable of spotting talent and knowing who fits our system

I cannot be for certain, but I believe it's a combination of he is undersized, didn't play very good competition in East TN, is being recruited to UT to play strictly a special teams position, and also because I think ppl tend to be more critical of local players because they think for some reason that these local players are getting the benefit of the doubt because of where they live. I personally don't agree with or have a problem with any of the stated reasons except one. Yes he is undersized, but so are many other great players. Yes East TN isn't great high school competition, but there are still some great players come from the area. Also he didn't get any special treatment because he was a local kid...There have been numerous local kids that have had D1 offers, but not gotten one from UT. What does somewhat bother me is that he is basically getting primarily recruited to play KR/PR (a special teams position). It makes even more bothersome when you look at our current class and see Dallas, Arnett, Coleman, etc. who could very adequately could do as good if not better than D.Young at KR/PR. So when you look at those reasons you can kinda understand why some people are kinda upset with the pickup, especially when we are having problem with numbers and this recruiting class. Don't get me wrong though, I am glad he is a part of the class and hope he proves people wrong because we all know we really need someone to field a punt.

With the victory of Webb, Alcoa, Greenville, and Maryville in the state championships it seems to me that the quality of competition in East Tennessee is not that bad.

Valid point. I should have been more specific. As a whole state TN does not have great high school football competition compared to most states surrounding us. East or West. I'm not saying it's the worst, but it isn't very good. The only teams Bearden played worth a count were Maryville (twice), Farraguat, and a surprising West team. And they lost 100% of those by an average of 20 points. On the flipside of that those really weren't DY's fault. He played very well against these good teams just as he did the bad ones.

Thoughts about Markeith Ambles?? I know that was discussed as rumor, but is there any seriousness to it?

Not even close.
Dooley want players with CHARACTER, not kids that Kiffin doesnt even like.

Signal Mountain played in a lower division than they should have this year. They're reclassifying into one they fit in for next year and they're losing a bunch of seniors. They're not sustaining that success.

Oak Ridge , Catholic, and Kingsport DB are solid as well. I agree with you. It's not South Florida comp, but it's a little under-rated. A number of players from East Tenn have been under rated. Everyone knows about Cobb, but I'm wondering what Will Jackson (Farragut/Ga.Tech) could do for our o-line right now? Also think Kiffin was to busy star-gazing to give Tyler Robinson from Alcoa a look. He could help us at TE next yr. The next one is Darrell Warren from Alcoa.

Warren and the running back commited to UTC over the weekend.

Good get for them. I don't think Warren could have played RB, but could play D at a high level in college. What RB are you speaking of? Tyson perhaps? Kinda thought Tyson was over-hyped, JMO. But Warren and the Jr Hambrick are pretty darn good.
