We Should Beat Mizzou - We Are Getting No Respect

Are we being underestimated because of our schedule?

I'm cautious to pick us to win after being burned so badly last weekend.... I just hope we play them close....

We are probably going to get destroyed in this game and the next. Both Mizzou and AU are match-up nightmares for our slow defense.

I actually believe we win this game by double digits. One stat I would love to know is the average weight of their d line vs average weight of our o line

??????
What are you smoking. I hope we win and if we do, it will not be by double digits.

You got that right buddy. They Missouri, they aint even really SEC. They just a bunch of sissys from the Big 12 who can't compete against the best, and we's about to show'em!

Last I checked they were members of the SEC. I hope we pull the upset, but I wouldn't call them a bunch of sissy's. Did you see their game against the Gators?

If UT had their roster.... you and most of the people here would have written the season off long before it began. Mizzou's last 4 recruiting classes have ranked 41, 31, 48 & 21. The handwringing over UT's roster was incredible and the Vols have over 20 players who were formerly 4/5* recruits while Mizzou has maybe 10.

From a pure talent standpoint, they aren't really an SEC team yet. They have a very good system and run it well.

And lost to a USC team where shaw played 1.5 qtrs. a team we beat. We could do this all day. They are good but that doesn't mean they aren't a bit overhyped and a little too highly ranked.

Was it Mizzou that was overhyped, or USC? or BOTH?

I think we lose this one because it is on the road and because we are starting a different QB for the whole game, not just as a sub.

Also, IMO, Dobbs isnt going to be allowed to get to crazy with running the ball, seeing as how CBJ would have to burn the other red shirt on Fergy if Dobbs got injured.

I think we play conservatively, the game is close, and we lose because our defense cant tackle and is slow.

Mizzou... has a system. They have SOME good players but they have a bunch of others with marginal talent who play roles. There's nothing wrong with that. You can win some games with it. But they will NOT overwhelm UT or any other SEC team less UK, Vandy, and maybe Arkansas with "talent".

UT has more raw talent than MU. The game comes down to whether CBJ can throw a wrench into Mizzou's system and beat them with his more talented players.

This is most clearly true of the linemen playing in this game. UT has a talent advantage on both sides of the line... but they have to be able to take advantage of it and not let Mizzou "do what they do".

GA was only minus Gurley to start that game and we came within inches. That was 4 weeks of Super High Intensity Training ago. Makes for a nice acronym too.

We beat USCe at home and they lost to USCe at home...and they only had Shaw for 1 quarter verses 3 1/2 for us.

We have played much better teams and that will only help us in this game which should be close.

Mizzou's a good team, guys. They aren't perfect- but neither are we. Our lack of speed and depth will result in them winning and likely covering the spread.

Doesn't matter, though. We'll make a bowl game, land a top 5 class, and stomp them for years to come.

Mizzou is peaking right now for their football program. It won't last.

Fellow Vol devotee, allow me to address your arguments point by point:

1) because a team that just got taken to the woodshed by Bama

So you think Mizzou would win at Bama with their 112th in FBS pass defense?

2) only beat 1 decent team

You mean South Carolina? The team Mizzou just lost to?

3) is facing a 1 loss top 15 team

If James Franklin was healthy, this would be a valid point. What is their record with Mauk as a starter? 1-1

4) AND IS STARTING A NEW FRESHMAN QUARTERBACK

So are they. Mauk is a freshman who just went 10-25 with 1 pick. He also hit Gamecock dbs in the numbers several times and they dropped easy picks.

Do you really think from watching both teams that we should be expected to lose by 2 TDs?

GOr are you doing what most are, looking at Mizzou's record and ranking, not their body of work?
I'm saying that a poorr performance against Bama didn't help UT's outlook.

I know Georgia and Florida are more depleted than when UT played them, but the fact is UT couldn't beat them and Mauk threw 300 yards against Florida. Dobbs has played how many snaps? Also it's on the road.

You can't use the argument UT beat the team they lost to. I'm not dogging the Vols chances, I'm simply amazed at how everyone's saying UT is being disrespected. Yeah Mizzu's wins are skewed, but they're still the better team and there's nothing wrong with picking them.

IMO that is why most people are saying that. We are a rushing team and they have a good rush defense. I'm afraid Dobbs won't be beating them through the air, especially if many of our butterfinger receivers keep dropping passes.

I think the rush defense stat is misleading. WKU has the top rusher in college football, Oregon is one of if not the top rushing team in the country and we all know Alabama is a great rushing team.

The problem is we haven't even come close to playing a decent road game. We should have been able to play with Florida who lost at Missouri. I hope we win but on the road I doubt it.

I think we have a strong chance of winning this game but I have no issue with Mizzou being favored by a lot. Until we start knocking off higher ranked teams consistently and winning a road game every once in a while we aren't going to be favored no matter what kind of schedule we are playing. We have less wins than them and the game is in their stadium. If we win this game we'll be on our way to getting respect again but it's something we have to earn on the field and in the win/loss column.

This fan base goes from we have a chance to beat Alabama to we cannot beat Missouri. I do not understand it! Vols pull out another close upset win tomorrow!

I think this game will go largely the way that Dobbs goes. The team is counting on him to take control and have a good performance Saturday night under the lights. If he is accurate with his passes, I believe UT will rack up 30 or more points on mizzou. That is based on them being ranked 112th in the nation against the pass. If the pass plays are working, the run game will also be working especially with a qb who will carry the ball in the read option.

I bet we would have done better against Florida if they didn't have Easley and 4 other starters out, if we had time to learn QB Murphy, if we had the Gators at home.

Also we beat USCe with Shaw playing most of the game, he only needed 1 quarter to shock Mizzou.

Payback, they shouldn't have beat us last year but we waited too long to fire Double D-. Chaney would have dominated the Tigers last year.

We did not respond well to a hostile atmosphere at Bama, last week. We must believe we can win.
