As our interim coach for a year. This man was the only one that held our program together after Kiffin unexpectedly left. It's a no brainer that he wouldn't have done any worse than Dooley, but we could have had him as an iterim coach for A LOT cheaper than Dooley's ridiculous contract. It just doesn't make sense to me. Dooley wasn't our first, second or even third option, yet we kicked Kippy to the curb and gave a guy that went 17-20 in a made up conference a huge buy out clause. I don't have any love for Arkansas, but you have to respect the power that's in charge of their football program. When they had to fire Petrino all of a sudden, they brought in a guy to hold the program together for one season until they find the right guy for them. Just imagine, we could have at Kippy for one season while we found our right guy and who knows, it could have been Kevin Sumlin!

I think that was an option but Kippy didn't want the interim tag. Or didn't want to be involved in the interview process. Something along those lines.

Could've ended up poorly too. Kippy could've gone 4-8, recruiting might have been a mess. It may have made the situation worse. It's all hypothetical.

Really doesn't matter. This is as useful as a Bryce Brown, or Lane Kiffin thread.

VN would have gone crazy wondering why we didn't go after X coach if that had happened. I have learned that VN will never be satisfied.

hindsight is almost always 20/20, but in this case we don't know that it would have been any better and it may have been worse.

Quit living in the past Dooley was a bad hire by our former AD. There is nothing that can be done about it now and crying isn't going to help. Playing the what if game is for losers. Respect the powers that be at Arkansas because they were smart enough to bring John L Smith back as interim coach? Are you kidding he is a complete train wreck and this season has been nothing short of a circus at Arkansas. LizHoney4u and her pig nose would have been a better choice.

Really? Are you really asking that?:nono:

Yes I am. He didn't get any recruits while he was here, did he even have any practices with the team?

He had a press conference where he said some good things about the program.

Please explain how he held us together

Nope.

Was given a late, cursory interview by Hamilton - who had already made up his mind. Dooley announced a day or so later. Kippy wanted a path to having the interim tag removed. Hamilton did not offer that option. Well documented in the media.

Had they done so there would have been no Kiffin debacle or Dools disaster. It would have been a controlled process that made sense and not one that made us into the laughingstock of the SEC.

With all due respect, I can hardly think of a significantly worse situation than we have endured for the past 3 yrs. If he had sucked the first year, we could have gracefully sought a new coach, i.e. Kevin Sumlin or Gary Patterson, after things had started to stabilize. You would have to admit that Kippy had more orange blood than DD will ever have (but he probably wouldn't have worn the orange pants).

This is how I recall the situation. After witnessing the past 3 yrs with Dooley it's hard to argue Kippy Brown would've been worse. Even if he was only an interim solution, we'd be heading into year 3 of the Sumlin or (insert winning coaches name here) era. All I know is that if Dooley comes back our program will remain uncompetitive for the next few years and if they replace him with CDD 2.0 the program might just collapse.

The one thing Dooley did was secure what has turned out to be a really good Junior class. Would hate to see where this team would be without it. I can't see how Kippy could have wound up with that class.

You mean the class that Kiffin (and Kippy Brown) had already recruited? The one featuring Bray and Hunter on offense, where Kippy was already the "Passing Game Coordinator"? I personally don't think that would have been as much of a problem as you think.

Bray and the other EE's were pretty much stuck, I think James may have been only other one that would soundly be considered a Kiffin recruit. Kippy & crew didn't get the time of day from Hunter, he was on his way to LSU.
