We swept the national champs this year

I know it's no news but we went 4-0 against the NCAA and NIT Champs.

Watching Florida tonight, I just kept thinking what a hell of a job BP and the team did! :post-20645-1119625378:

Okay so we went 4-1 with regular season sweeps of NCAA and NIT champs.

Still - how did we beat UF 2x? BP rocks.

Florida's play was untouchable hot all tournament long. They hit a streak at just the right time, and that's how you win basketball championships.

I can dig it but given UF's size (Noah, Horford, Richard, Brewer and Moss) and guard play (Green, Humphries) I'm still amazed that the scrappy Vols took 2 off of them.

Thanks for the kudos everyone !! It is very satisfying to have won the tournament but don't for a second think we Gators don't remember Tennessee and South Carolina and their owning us this year !!!

Tennessee I understood -- we got beat on essentially the last play in both games and Tennesee had a great year so it certainly seemed plausible.

South Carolina, until the SEC b-ball tourney, now that just was hard to understand. But give that team a ton of credit for the way they ended their year. They went on a run to get to SECCG finals and lost by just 2 points to a Florida team that, in retrosepct, was obviously peaking. Then, SC goes on to dominate the NIT.

I think if you look back at it you see a little bit of similarity between college basketball and the NBA in the sense that some teams in the NBA scrap hard to make the playoffs but then lose quickly whereas some teams seem to drift in and do well because they have another gear to go to.

Pearl took this year's UT team and had them playing at their highest gear in February. They just didn't have another one to go to come March. I don't think that reflects poorly on the UT squad. Quite the contrary. It shows that they were hungry all year long but just had nothing left to give at the end. It is a true testament to Pearl, who basically got the team to play at the level of tournament intensity for about, what, 27 or 28 games?

Imagine what he will do when he has the kind of talent you see right now at Florida, UCLA, North Carolina, UConn, etc. He gets those players in there and your program is going to explode. I do worry there will be a let down now at Florida and that some of these guys will go to the NBA, but UT has nothing but promise ahead.

I wouldn't worry too much about UF dropping off a whole lot...Billy D has a good thing going down there, in fact, for him, from a recruiting standpoint, he couldn't be in a better position.

recruits that normally wouldn't consider going to an SEC school because they are being courted by big time ACC and Big East schools can now look at Florida as a viable opiton to showcase thier talent. they will have big time games against TN, UK, ARK, Bama, LSU every year (not to mention a good oofc schedule). You have some high profile coaches in the league now, ripe with story lines, and recent history for a league that suggests the future is bright.

Now there may be some ripple affect for other shcools in the league, and the teams like USC and TN, can also go in to the same recruit's house as UF, UK, UNC, Duke etc...and say, we beat those guys twice....we are big time too, and you get could get us over the hump.

With the coaches we now have in this league, i really think the future of SEC bball is extremely bright.
